It's worth it when you need it
We didn't have pet insurance for our first dog that we lost in 2003. I did the math and had we had insurance, we would have saved money. She was healthy the first 3 years of her life but then got an illness we couldn't treat. She had IMHA and we were told that 60% of dogs can live with this disease on treatment. She was unfortunately in the 40% that didn't respond to treatment. For our second and third dog, we got pet insurance and it helps out when they get sick or injured. When they are old and dying, it really helps offset the cost of medical bills. I wish they would cover more as the premiums are expensive but we'd end up paying more in the long run without it.
