Healthy Paws | Pet Insurance Review

I cannot recommend Healthy Paws highly enough. This company is honest, reliable and claims are paid with amazing speed. For example, my Yorkie had to have a test for Addison's Disease yesterday morning that cost $206.00. When we got home from the vet's office, I faxed over the claim form and invoice and I received an e-mail from Healthy Paws at 4:15 yesterday afternoon saying her claim has been processed and a check for $185.40 is on its way. Amazingly, this is typical for Healthy Paws, not the exception! My yorkie has been regurgitating since May 5th and I have taken her to her local vet and U.C. Davis (veterinary teaching hospital)several times. I knew that the literature said that Healthy Paws continues to cover a condition, even after the current policy has to be renewed. I have never heard of any other pet health insurance company with that policy, so needless to say, I was a little worried when Sophie's policy renewed early this month (July). Sure enough, Healthy Paws has continued to pay for her medications, tests, etc. even after the policy renewed. I honestly do not believe that you will ever find a better, more reliable/honest pet insurer than Healthy Paws! I recommend them to everyone I can get to listen!

We signed up 2 years ago for Healthy Paws because we understood it was the best. We've already had a premium increase, and are scheduled for another. Apparently the premium increases every year, but they don't tell you that going in. We have never filed a claim, so all the below information doesn't apply, however, this is something people need to know in advance.

I learned about the importance of pet insurance for my dog the hard way. She had never been sick one day in her life until last November when she was accidentally poisoned. I rushed her to my vet who fought valiantly to save her life. She required surgery and 24-hour intensive care. For several agonizing days I wasn't sure if she would live or die but she finally pulled through due to the extraordinary care she received. I had no pet insurance at the time so I had to pay the entire bill myself which was about $8,000! I was determined that would never happen to me again so I began to review pet insurance companies online. I visited many sites and compared the benefits and exclusions of their policies. Some companies set fixed dollar amounts for procedures that were far less than the actual cost of the treatments which I didn't like but Healthy Paws was different. I was concerned that Healthy Paws was a new company but I liked the clarity of their user friendly website so I decided to select them. The enrollment process was straightforward and within 2 weeks she was covered. On July 13th, she was bitten on her leg by another dog and required emergency care. This was not a life threatening injury as before but she was hospitalized and required many stitches. The bill was about $1,146 which I submitted to Healthy Paws for reimbursement. I purchased Healthy Paws Pet Insurance for my dog, Frankie earlier this year. I lost her older brother late last year to bone cancer and am still paying off his medical bills so I thought pet insurance sounded like a good investment for Frankie. Well, it's already helped us out and I couldn't be happier with it!I found a little bump on Frankie's leg so we went to see our vet and she was concerned enough to take a sample and have it sent for cytology. This was the first claim I filed with Healthy Paws (for the aspirate and cytology). I was surprised by the phone call I received within a week to tell me that the claim would be covered. I was even more surprised that the first thing they asked me was "How is Frankie doing?" The gal I spoke with said they were sending the check out that day. I mentioned that Frankie was scheduled for surgery to have the mass removed because the results had indicated it was a mast cell tumor. :( The customer rep said that the surgery and anesthetic would also be covered. And that was much to my relief as the bill was estimated around $1000! I did get the check for the 1st claim the monday after our phone conversation but my jaw nearly hit the floor when I discovered we had also gotten the check for her surgery claim we only filed on the Thursday before! I can't believe they processed the claim that fast! I also got a follow up email asking me to let them know if Frankie was recovering well. Man, if only people health insurance was that good
