A must have if you care for your pet

My dog is family and I brought him from India. He needed a great overhaul since he was with caretakers for a period of 8 months. The first thing I did was get him checked with a vet and then get some insurance. I wont say that I very happy with the cost limit included for the services but then I do get at least 60% of the overall amount I spend back and when the little guy is over 8 years he needs more constant care and maintenance. The processing time quite fast though and the customer care time to answer questions is also quick.

Bulldog Troubles

My wife and I have been rescuing English bulldogs for over 5 years. Most of the bullies who've come to live with us have been older dogs. Bulldogs have a lot of health problems in general, and older, not well-cared for dogs have even more. Over a year ago, we enrolled our four current bullies with ASPCA pet insurance. Since then, we've lost two of our girls, but have gained one more, who's also enrolled. The insurance has more than paid for itself in that time, and saved us hundreds of dollars in vet bills.

They are getting better each year.....

This is great insurance for my young dog but their 'usual and customary covered charges' are way off the rates paid in Manhattan. They underpay on claims and when I called them to ask them to send me to the vet that charges those very low 'usual and customary covered charges' in Manhattan they couldn't find one... But if my dog does get really sick I know I will get reimbursed for something and that always helps!

Skin Ailments

Having the insurance keeps my wife and I from thinking twice about taking our dog to see the vet. If he's not feeling well, we take him to the vet. The only negative we've found is reasonable cost reimbursement rate does not appear to adjust for location, so we always take a bit of a hit on that (we live in NYC). Still, the insurance makes pet health care manageable

Monthly Cost

Rates start at: $10 (for accident only), $16 (Complete Coverage). Rates vary based on species, age, breed, and location.

Coverage

The pay-out amount is based on the actual vet bill, at a rate pre-selected by the customer: 90%, 80% or 70%

Payout Limits

Annual limits can be set by the customer, ranging from $2,500 to $20,000, including an unlimited option. No lifetime limits.

Deductible

$100, $250 or $500 annually.

Age Limits

No upper age limits. Pets must be at least 8 weeks old to enroll.

Waiting Period

There are no waiting periods for preventive care. Coverage begins 14 days after date listed on policy for accidents, illnesses, and knee/ligament conditions.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions, cosmetic procedures and breeding costs are not covered. ASPCA Pet Health Insurance has two Preventive Care plans that can be added to help cover a pet’s wellness care, including annual exams, vaccinations, tests, dental cleanings and flea/heartworm preventive. Preventive Care plans reimburse up to a set amount for each listed treatment. If your pet exhibited symptoms of a knee and ligament condition at any time, prior to enrollment or during a waiting period, all ligament and knee conditions will be excluded. Ligament and Knee are conditions involving a ligament, patella, meniscus or soft tissue disorder of the knee. Accident-Only coverage available.
