How to Save Money at Healing Paws Veterinary Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
The office is so clean and restful. The staff there is by far the most attentive and understanding out of the whole Teays Valley area. They took such amazing care of my cat and were honest about treatment options. I will never go anywhere else. They treated me and my fur baby like family and I’m happy to know them!

My daughter spotted a tiny blur of black fur on a busy road. It turned out to be an estimated 3 week old kitten who was emaciated, covered in filth and terrified. This happened on a Sunday, I called my regular vet the next day and was told they were booking out new client appointments to June/July. I was a little panicked because this kitten was so tiny, I knew nothing about babies this young or small and knew he couldn’t wait that long to be seen. I had to weigh him with a kitchen scale he was so tiny. I called local vet offices that I knew of but no one could get him in for weeks. A Google search lead me to Healing Paws. The receptionist who answered the phone was so incredibly kind and reassuring, they got the baby in for an appointment a few days later. Upon arrival, I called the number on the door to let them know I was there. The waiting area is small so while this baby was in a carrier, I have a very reactive and anxious dog who does not do well in crowded environments so I appreciated this. They told us to come on in. We didn’t wait long after checking in to get back to a room and once in the room, staff started his examination. They took him to the back for bloodwork etc, it wasn’t long before they brought him back to us. Dr. Totten came in with his results and immediately put us at ease. She is incredibly kind, compassionate and has an infectious positivity to her. She took the time to answer all of our questions with patience and clarity, we never felt rushed or glossed over. Kittens are obviously adorable but every staff member we came in contact with was kind, gentle and loving with our little road rescue. She even texted us with results when a send out test came back and let us know she’d have a new medication ready for us the next day. As an aside, they have a dedicated number for texting off hours/after hours with emergencies etc which I thought was awesome! We’ve had a subsequent follow up appointment since then and the experience was no different the second time. They were a little busier so it took longer for Dr. Totten to get to us but that was a non-issue. Knowing that she takes the time with pet parents to provide total care and answer their questions makes the waiting worth it because you know you’ll be extended the same and honestly, it’s refreshing and comforting. Plus, our little guy was not there for a sick visit and in any facet of medicine, human or animal, the sickest get seen first…as it should be. My daughter adores the staff here and said she truly felt comfortable in the office. It has a calming and peaceful atmosphere. So much so that she asked to transfer her other cat to Dr. Totten as when she turns 18, she’ll take over both cats care. I know this is a bit long but I wanted to write a comprehensive and honest review. This office stepped up to help us in a situation where we very much felt in over our heads. I didn’t have any intentions on adding another animal to the house, much less a kitten who wasn’t nearly ready to leave his momma. He’s now thriving, happy, healthy and terrorizing our feet and curtains daily, thanks to Dr. Totten and her staff. We’ve become an instant gratification society but sometimes, the best things are worth a little bit of a wait and an equal amount of understanding along the way.

Our first experience was wonderful. My dog had never had shots before and we didn't know how he'd react . He is a German Shepherd and high anxiety. The Vet was patient and very comforting to us and my dog . The vacuum was on while we were there and was causing him to be more anxious. She had them to turn it off. He was so good for her. Definitely a great place ! The staff was all so pleasant too.

Don' call this place if your animal is sick. Amazing experience. We arrived at apt time and was seen immediately. All staff and Dr. Totten were super patient and loving to our traumatized little foster dog. On our 2nd apt (for health certificate for transport) he was relaxed and walked right up on the scale. A vast improvement. He was comfortable with the staff, another vast improvement. They knew he was traumatized and I felt they took extra care because of it. Slow movements and soft voices. Very grateful and will recommend. Thank you guys for being so good to foster Dallas💙
