How to Save Money at VCA Manito Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

These people know our pets and are genuinely glad to see them. We have been with them since our cats were kittens and our dogs were puppies. We even moved to a different part of town and I still drive the distance to see "our" vets and vet techs. I wouldn't take my pets any other place.

The entire staff at the Manito VCA are so nice and accommodating. Technician Jacob on today’s visit was very gentle and caring with our dog Ellie. Thank you for the quality care all of you provide for her.

My wife and I just adopted a new puppy and naturally, we had about a thousand questions and two-thousand things to be anxious over. My wife made our appointment with Manito VCA Hospital to have our new pup checked out. Let me tell you… the ENTIRE staff was nothing short of amazing. From the very beginning the staff did all they could to make our feel welcomed and calm. Our Vet, Dr. Foss (maybe Fauce?) was incredible! She not only gave our puppy 3 vaccines without so much of any noticeable yelp or flinch from pain! Beyond that, she sat with us for an hour and a half answering every anxiety fueled rapid fire question we had! We’ve never had more gracious assistance and care. We are very thankful for this team! Shelby will be back soon! Update: We got a second puppy. A Blue Heeler named Nightmare (he lives up to his name, but we love him.) Recently we got Shelby spayed and Nightmare nurtured (Nightmare was nurtured yesterday 8.15.2022). The folks at Manito, Dr. Pervis, this time, took great care of not only Nightmare, but also his insane anxiety ridden puppy parents… Every time we come, the staff as a whole are nothing less that phenomenal! Thank you all for taking great careShelby and Nightmare! Thank you!

Ive been taking my two cats here for two years, and all my family takes their pets here as well. The place is very welcoming; they put my animals name of the welcome board and were waiting for him, excited to meet him. Everyone was very friendly and had my animals' best interest at heart. They also were very fast in getting him an appointment, and he was super happy when he left. Overall, it was a great place, and my animal enjoyed it. Recently my cat had to have a catheter put in here and they were very helpful and talked me through everything. They really care about your pets and help them the best.

Before this we would have given them 5 stars, but this was very painful... After a $170.00 visit that included an ultrasound, we were told by our regular vet office of 23 yrs (Manito Veterinary Clinic) that our 13 yr old cat had congestive heart failure, and was in severe pain. We were told that the best thing for him was to euthanize him, or he would die a very painful death within a few hours. We couldn't do it without spending a couple more hours with him, so we made an appointment to euthanize him as late as we could that day. Still not able to do it, so we re-scheduled for 12:30 the following day. There were some signs of improvement and still no sign of pain, so we canceled that death sentence also. We made an appointment for the following day with the Cat Clinic. To our good fortune we met with a wonderful cat fan, Dr Sarah Patterson. She was not told about our previous diagnosis until part way through the assessment. After she ordered some labs on him (which the Manito Veterinary Clinic didn't even offer) they came back mostly normal, with the exception of some minor elevations. She prescribed a few meds with some helpful advice, and our irreplaceable friend is still with us 6 weeks later (8/13/18 - 9/26/18), and enjoying life again, like he had never had a problem . Everyone @ the Cat Clinic has been exceptionally friendly and helpful with our life and death crisis, and it was a relief to find someone that offered life for our friend. Even though they are a 25 min. drive vs 3 min. the Cat Clinic will now be our regular vet. Phil & Chris Holloway
