How to Save Money at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital, A Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I've had to visit Pilchuck Veterinary hospital on two occasions. The first ended in the loss of our beloved pet at the time. The staff was really great in that event, which as everyone knows is just awful. Their kindness and empathy really helped. The second time had a much more positive outcome. One of the two young cats we had recently gotten decided to eat some foam rubber. My regular veterinary office was able to locate his intestinal blockage and contacted Pilchuck to schedule an emergency surgery. We got him there and checked in, paid our deposit and waited to hear. Shortly after Dr. Murphy called me to go over all of the risks of the operation. She was very kind, thorough and forthright. Later that night after the surgery, the Dr. called and spoke with my wife to let her know everything went well. We were able to pick up our boy the next day and the staff was great. The whole experience was costly and challenging, but once again Pilchuck did an excellent and professional job. Thanks guys.

I don't see how anybody could give this place a bad review. Every staff member I interacted with or observed was professional, compassionate, and courteous. And the doctor was clear and straightforward with me; didn't talk down to me like human doctors do. The wait time may be long, but your best friend is in good hands at this hospital. After a long, stressful day, this morning I am relaxed and so is my fur boy. I am confident he will thrive with the recovery plan laid out by Dr. Murphy.

I brought my dog in because she had fallen into a object sticking out of the ground and punctured a big deep hole in her thigh that needed stitches right away. To treat her completely which required surgery the bill was going to be $2200 dollars. I instantly got a hot flash. I don’t have that kind of money just lying around. I asked if there was some way I could put like $600 down and make payments. Nope they said no., then shoved care credit and scratch grant in my face ., I don’t have the best credit so it dinged my credit and I still got denied. So they said the can do the bare minimum of $400 and still have to send her home with a big hole in her leg. They don’t care about your animals needs they just care about getting your money 😡 needless to say I took her to a vet the next day that stitched her up and I was able to make payments. If you don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on your pets needs. Pilchuck is the last place you want to go. I recommend anyone else but pilchuck. They’re all about money money money 💰

We Had to bring one of our dogs to the emergency care and they originally said a 10 hour wait I only had to wait for 5 hours. I felt like they gave our dog the best care possible. They made me feel welcome and made sure our dog was thoroughly tested to find out what was causing the issue. I will not forgot the kindness of the staff through a stressful time. The team works really well together and does there best dealing with very stressful situations. Nothing but respect keep up the great work.

I am not sure how it is legal or ethical to have your website say you are open 24/7/365, your reader board say 24/7/365 and Google say 24/7/365 when you are not. That is false advertisement! And just plain disgusting. We had an emergency with our 11 year old German Shepherd on Friday and based on your website we drove straight there. I guess that was my mistake. But I just wanted to get her somewhere that could help as quick as I could and didn't think about calling first after reading your website and google. I have also seen your reader board in the past that says 24/7/365. When we got there we saw your reader board that said 24/7/365, we saw cars in the parking lot then noticed the building interior looked pretty dark. We parked I got out walked to the door and there is a note that said you were not open. We waisted precious time during a pet medical emergency going to a clinic that was closed based on the information they provided. You should be ashamed of yourself that you are false advertising and making an already scary and horrific experience that much worse for pet parents. I will never try your place again and I will make sure that my friends and family know you practice false advertisement. If I can't trust you to update your hours when they are limited I would NEVER trust you with my pets. I will drive the extra 20+ minutes going to a place that has amazing customer service and DELIVERS as advertised. Thank you BluePearl Pet Hospital.
