How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Every single staff member was amazing! They not only made sure my sweet baby was comfortable but they checked in on my and my spouse many times. They made sure to offer us water, food, and even a bed if we wanted to stay with our cat. They were sweet caring and very compassionate. We also loved being involved with his care. It allowed us to know what was happening right when it was happening. I work in the vet field and will always 10/10 recommend them to all my clients in need!

This is the spot to take your animal! Bryce greeted us with such a calming and welcoming presence which was a treat. We were instantly brought back into the treatment bay and it was fun to be able to see all the things happening. I am a medical provider myself who had found out about this facility from a client of mine only 3 days prior who was an employee of the company and lo and behold we needed them! The employees recommendation was profound: they loved working there due to their ethics. Never turning away an animal no matter what so I knew I was going to tuck them away for the future. Who knew it would be in 3 days when my cat got sick. Dr Willis was extremely knowledgeable and shared her expertise and answered my many questions! I learned more in 15 minutes from her than all of my previous vet appointments combined! I cannot recommend them enough and I am so happy to have them in the neighborhood! Hats off to all the staff!

Important Stuff First: -Open 24 hours -Awesome staff -You get to be with your pet the whole time -Great facility with private rooms for pets who need them -Great at working around financial constraints Longer story: We brought our cat Hampton to VEG Interbay a couple weeks ago as we didn’t feel comfortable waiting a few more days until we could get a regular vet visit. The operators and doctors on the phone were very good at helping us decide if he needed to visit the ER or if his symptoms could wait. We decided to bring him in on a Saturday night and the staff was great about trying to get him to relax and running the necessary tests. He was getting very difficult to work with so they ended up giving him some medicine and letting us go home to monitor him. His symptoms progressed overnight and we ended up taking him back on Sunday, which they didn’t charge an extra “visit fee” for which was greatly appreciated. They decided to sedate him so they could run more comprehensive tests, and we got to be with him the entire time from the sedative injection all the way through X-rays etc. Dr. Willis was amazing and we feel very lucky to have gotten her as our emergency vet. She was very knowledgeable, was kind to our cat even when he was trying to swipe at her, helped us calm down in a very stressful situation, was very good at answering our questions, and helped make sure we were taking the best care possible of our cat without breaking the bank. Thank you Dr. Willis :) I’m happy to say that Hampton seems to be completely better and is back to his normal self, which is a huge relief. Hoping we never need to come back, but it’s a relief to have such an awesome emergency vet so close to our home.

We had a great experience. The staff was very attentive, communication was excellent, and the facility is amazing. As soon as we arrived a vet tech put down a soft dog bed on the floor for our dog to lie on, and offered us coffee and snacks. The clinic is set up as a large, well lit, open space with no barriers between clinicians and clients. Everything that takes place is completely transparent, and owners are welcome to stay with their pets while they are being treated. After the procedure, we had access to a small private room where we sat with our dog while she recovered from anesthesia. The staff checked on us several times, brought heated towels for our dog and made sure everyone was comfortable. This was our first experience with this collaborative model for veterinary medicine, and we loved it.

I rarely come across a company or business that I feel so positive about that I want to write a review, but I can't recommend this place enough. I wish they did primary care because the level of care my cat got from here was better than any vet I've been to. Things I loved: (1) You can speak to a veterinarian before going on -- this was super helpful in making me feel confident in the decision to go in. When I did go in, the vet I spoke with came up to me and it felt like we were ready to hit the ground running helping my cat out. (2) The veterinarian was focused on my goals and was transparent -- we had a whole conversation about what my goals were with my pet, and she made sure I understood everything that was going to be done before it was done. I left with a very good understanding of what was going on, what I needed to do, and what to expect for both good and bad outcomes. (3) The payment and costs were very transparent -- I didn't feel like I was being pushed expensive procedures, I felt like the vet and I were on a team to help my cat. They shared an itemized list and costs that I reviewed before they did anything. (4) The entire team there gave exceptional care to my cat -- everyone that interacted with me and my cat were incredibly gentle and understanding. I actually learned tricks from them about how to calm my cat down when I'm at the vet. The only thing that was a bit odd, but wasn't a big deal, was the open environment they have. Initially when I went in, they brought me to an examination table in a large open room that also had dogs in it. I knew if I let my cat out in that room -- he'd immediately bolt and try and hide. I let them know that and they brought me to a private room.
