How to Save Money at Timberline Vet Emergency & Specialty

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Brought in a Corgi who got wounded early Xmas Eve morning. They triaged her, got her looked at and assessed within two hours. Arranged talking to her owner, and all the dog things. They were nice, professional, and they have really good free coffee. As a Rover watcher, I feel 1000% secure that I can bring any dog here in an emergency and it'll be handled perfectly!

Our cat would not be here without the generosity and care of Dr Ahlgrim and the exceptional team working here. When Freya needed a second blood transfusion they immediately were calling for donors, and a member of staff actually stopped by to allow their cat to donate and save her life. We were definitely a handful throughout her chaotic stay but we were always met with smiling faces and true compassion. These people want to help you and your pet and the care they provide for your animal is exemplary and amplifies that. Freya is now home for christmas because of them. I would not recommend any other vets, everyone here is just the best!!

Dr. Bailey and the staff at Timberline Veterinary Emergency Animal Hospital were compassionate, thorough and patient at a hard time for us, the day we made a choice for our beloved dog, 15 year old Chipper, to transition from this world. He had been doing great and running around one day and then the next it was suddenly obvious we had a difficult choice to make. Our Chipper had a passing that any sentient being would hope for because of the staff’s compassionate attitudes. It wasn’t one of those places that believe in treating animals well but heck with the people. I felt we were all considered that sad and emotional day. Surrounded by myriad loved ones with pats, rubs, piano recordings and finally his favorite walking song, the “Chipper is a good dog” song, he crossed the rainbow bridge. We are sad but in his end of life smile, as seen in this photo, the joy he had for his people just radiated. I strongly recommend this clinic. Thank you, Timberline and Dr. Bailey.

I had to bring my kitty, Gandalf, to get blood transfusions as he was severely anemic. He ended up having to stay in hospital for 6 days. Throughout, I was impressed and touched beyond measure how kind and dedicated every single staff member is. The veterinarians are patient and took the time to explain to me what was going on. The front desk associates are beyond patient and helpful. They made me feel like my anxiety and fear was understood and empathized with. The fourth day, one of the veterinary techs supplied me with snacks and drinks because I had been there so long as well as a mat for me to sit on instead of just the floor of the exam room. The last day I was there, when it was really getting down to making a decision of how to proceed, they allowed me to stay in an exam room for over 24 hours with my boy, putting a sign on the door and everything to let others know we were in there. Luckily the next morning the tides turned in our favor. By the end of our visit, I think just about everyone knew my cat's name. I'm happy to report Gandalf is doing very well, he is back to normal. His PCV is above 30% and I know for a fact he would not be alive if it weren't for the Timberline team.

Timberline was amazing. I have a 4 year old cat that suffers from asthma, her new meds were not working, and she collapsed after a bad attack. I rushed her out there and they were able to get her back to 100% as well as work with my vet to provide continuing care after 2 nights in the ER. I arrived at the hospital at around 11:30 at night and stayed till 2am the next day. While I waited to hear final results and have a chance at seeing her before I went home to finally sleep, I got to witness what goes on at an animal ER in downtown Seattle at this time of night. The employees here deal with the most incredible, severe issues an animal and owner can face at a constant rate, every day. The amount of compassion and care taken with each case is without equal. I was allowed to stay in the back room with my cat for around an hour while she was on oxygen (this is not normal- I did not want to leave and I assume they didn't have the heart to tell me to leave). I was able to watch how they do their job and the severity of issues they take on at 1am. Your pets are in good hands here. Please show compassion to the employees of this place and have some patience. They deal with a lot. THANK YOU!
