How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Pet Dermatology Partners
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

We drive over two hours for a scheduled dermatology appointment. Due to same-day construction and traffic on a Seattle bridge, we were delayed. I called the clinic in advance, but no one answered. I arrived 11 minutes past the appointment time to notify staff that my husband was moments behind me with our dog. Instead of checking with a doctor, the receptionist immediately stated we would not be seen. When I asked that a doctor be consulted, a clinic manager came out, misstated our arrival as 25 minutes late, dismissed the documented traffic situation, and escalated the interaction. At no point was a solution explored. I was then told I needed to be “removed,” which was both unnecessary and unprofessional. A doctor later contradicted the manager’s explanation, citing different reasoning for why the appointment could not proceed -highlighting internal inconsistency rather than a clear medical or scheduling limitation. This visit could have been handled with basic professionalism and communication. Instead, the experience was marked by dismissive tone, escalation, and refusal to problem-solve - despite our long history and significant financial investment with this clinic. Policies matter, but so does how staff treat clients when life happens. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this clinic to clients traveling long distances or expecting reasonable communication.

This clinic enforces rigid punctuality for clients - we were told that being 12 minutes late was unacceptable - yet does not hold itself to the same standard. After our appointment was completed, checkout took over 20 minutes because the receptionist was unable to complete a basic transaction or provide a receipt in a reasonable amount of time. More concerning is the medical management. Our dog has biopsy-confirmed pemphigus foliaceus. For an extended period, treatment focused on increasing Apoquel dosing, despite incomplete disease control. Systemic steroids were not initiated until later, after continued symptoms and repeated owner advocacy, even though steroids are a standard component of managing this condition when immunosuppression is insufficient. A steroid bath was later suggested at the end of the day, despite the clinic being aware that we travel over two hours each way, making same-day return visits impractical. Between inflexible enforcement of time policies for clients, inefficient front-desk operations, delayed escalation of treatment, and lack of consideration for travel burden, we do not recommend this clinic - particularly for clients managing chronic autoimmune conditions or traveling long distances.

Sadly not a good experience. At first it was great but they don’t follow up and dislike anyone questioning the diagnoses they come up with. I wouldn’t suggest going to them. The rude email that was sent to me was unprofessional and surprising. We thought we had found the resolve we needed but it looks like we did not.

They took the time to throughly assess my dog’s condition and took immediate action to help us get a diagnosis and answers. They took wonderful care of him, and the staff is very caring and friendly.

We took our pup in for a skin biopsy and I was pretty disappointed that they chose to take a chunk out of the top of his forehead. The stitches didn’t heal great and there was a lot of scar tissue post procedure. It’s been months since his biopsy and no matter what we do we can’t seem to grow his hair back in that spot, too much scar tissue. We love our pup regardless of course, but we are pretty unhappy with our pups biopsy scar considering how expensive our dog was and the biopsy itself, he has a beautiful coat but now the scar on top of his head is large and pretty unsightly. To this day he’s still randomly scratching at it too.
