How to Save Money at Sound Animal

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I brought my cat in for a dental as recommended by my primary vet. I had an amazing experience and wish I knew about them sooner! Everyone was incredibly attentive and kind. I will continue to bring my cats here for any surgical needs.

Exceptional Care and Compassion at Sound Animal Hospital! I can’t say enough good things about the team at Sound Animal Hospital. They recently performed surgery to remove a mass from my dog’s rear leg, and from start to finish, the experience was outstanding. Every staff member we encountered was kind, professional, and genuinely invested in my dog’s well-being. The veterinarians took the time to explain the procedure clearly and answered all my questions with patience and empathy. I never felt rushed or uncertain, they made sure I was fully informed and comfortable every step of the way. The surgical team did an incredible job, and my dog is now healing beautifully thanks to their expert care. What really stood out was the level of compassion they showed, not just to my dog, but to me as well. They treated us like family, and that kind of care is rare and deeply appreciated. The follow-up support has also been top-notch, with thoughtful check-ins and clear guidance for post-op care. If you're looking for a veterinary team that combines skill, heart, and professionalism, I wholeheartedly recommend Sound Animal Hospital. They’ve earned every one of these five stars and then some.

Our cat was suffering from an intestinal obstruction — and unfortunately, this wasn’t his first time. He had two previous surgeries for foreign body obstructions, but this time we were almost certain it wasn’t caused by a foreign object. We initially went to an ER hospital where they performed $1600 worth of tests, yet the vet couldn’t give us a clear diagnosis or explain the cause. Instead, we were pushed toward immediate surgery with an estimate of $15,000. When we asked about conservative treatment, they quoted another $1800 and strongly discouraged it, saying it wasn’t recommended — without giving us any reassurance or context. The bill just kept climbing, and we felt trapped, stressed, and pressured. We started calling around for help and eventually found Sound Animal. Megan answered the phone and was incredibly understanding and informative. She gave us a clear estimate range of $2500–$4000 and told us they could see our cat the same day. When we arrived, Dr. Matlock took the time to understand our cat’s history, including his prior surgeries. She was calm, professional, and thoughtful in her approach. Most importantly, she reassured us that our cat’s condition was not so critical that we couldn’t try conservative treatment first, and that if it didn’t work, surgery would still be an option. That gave us a sense of hope and clarity that we hadn’t received from the ER. We finally felt safe and supported. The cost of trying conservative treatment on the first day was around $600 — clear, reasonable, and with no pressure. Although we eventually did go ahead with surgery, it was under much better circumstances — we had time to think, we understood why, and the final cost was around $3000. The surgery went smoothly, we were kept updated throughout the process, and post-op care was attentive and thorough. Dr. Matlock also gave us great advice on how to care for our cat long term and prevent future issues. Sound Animal truly restored our trust in veterinary care. Their honesty, skill, and compassion made all the difference during a very difficult time. We can’t recommend them highly enough.

Sound Animal has hands down been the most genuine and compassionate vet office we’ve ever experienced. Our dog needed emergency surgery for pyometra, and our regular vet couldn’t get her in soon enough. Meghanne went above and beyond to provide us with multiple resources for financial assistance—many of which we didn’t even know existed. Dr. Matlock was incredibly informative and walked us through the entire procedure, step by step which eased our minds. At Sound Animal, it’s clear that the team truly loves what they do and genuinely cares for their clients and their pets. It’s rare these days to find people who provide such exceptional service with heart and compassion. Sound Animal truly stands behind their mission, and we wish more vet offices operated with the same values.
