How to Save Money at VCA Ponti Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely a great experience! My puppy felt so comfortable there and the staff was very kind. The space was clean and tidy. My vet Kristyn was extremely nice and above and beyond for point of care! My puppy even adored her I’ve included a pic! I would recommend this location and staff to everyone!

Don't know what has happened here. Ponti has retired and everyone has lost it. I called about over a month ago to ask for assistance with a 90+ year old Russian tortoises. I asked the staff to pass on a message to Dr. Ponti for advise. He was the only exotic vet I knew. I wasn't expecting much but thought I'd give it a shot. I wasn't expecting much. Instead I got a terse call telling me to stop calling. I was amazed that one call could esulate into this. I offer is this: office manager bring your phone records and we will compare notes. I'll pay for the coffee.something like this. into to to something like into

Was told nail service was 15$ walk in for current customers 6 months ago. I understand inflation. However, they doubled the price in 6months, now require an appointment for a 2min (tops) service and my dog came out with half her nails still unacceptably long.

The staff here is so kind and they truly care about the well-being of your pets. I took my cat in for her first appt. here today, and the pheromone wall plug in helped her feel so much comfort! The vet prescribed anxiety meds for my cat and she had a blood test. I am so glad I came here for a second opinion on why my cat is over grooming. Thank you VCA!

The most overpriced animal clinic. I have spent thousands of dollars here on special foods, prescriptions, etc on my dog when she clearly had issues that they never tested for that I asked to do. My dog has been battling chronic allergies. She is 55 pds. They raised her citapoint injections from 120 dollars for a 55 pd dog which she still is, to a 60# to 80 # dog to 150 dollars. Although other vets charge 112.00 for the correct weight of 55 pds. They wanted to charge 458 dollars to do all these tests that were done a few months ago to give her an ear prescription that usually worked to calm it down. The assistant refused and told me I was being crazy for not wanting to pay another 500 dollars when the RX would have cleared my dogs ear infection like before for as little as 40.00. This clinic used to be great under Ponti. Since VCA took over the prices have gone to unaffordable levels and they don’t care about dogs or animals just over pricing the RX and services. Call around and you will find vets that care with a smaller price tag.
