How to Save Money at Norwich Regional Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I got my 7 year old cat neutered here and within 2 days he was back to completely normal! ZERO stitches. ZERO discomfort. The vets all love my cat as much as I do making him very comfortable and calm. Very professional team! lovely receptionist! All around great experience and will continue to use them in the future!

My dog Eve is a moderately “fearful dog”, which is what led me to NRAH because their team is certified to handle animals with fear-based issues like overreactive aggression and anxiety. On our first visit, they made sure the whole floor was locked down from any unexpected visitors, and the vet team came in to the welcome room, sat down on the floor, and just let my dog do what she needed to do to remain calm. People who have reactive dogs know how important introductions are, and the NRAH team will go above and beyond for you. Thanks to their care and treatment plan, Eve is a very happy farm dog.

I love this vet. They are prompt, considerate, friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, attentive, flexible, and truly want your pet to have a positive experience. I became a new client with this vet after experiencing an emergency with my dog, who broke a nail on a hike. I couldn't get the nail to stop bleeding and his original vet was more than an hour away. I called Norwich and within a few hours, my dog was patched up and sent home with antibiotics. I have had nothing but positive experiences with this vet. The prices may be slightly more expensive than your vet, but not outlandish, and their willingness to get to know you and your dog, makes them a trustworthy and patient facility.100% worth it

I've been a pet Mom all of my life. I've worked in the animal industry in a few different avenues. So I have seen different levels of care and attention. When my previous vet sold her practice and moved to HI I was very sad. I had high hopes that the people purchasing her practice would be everything that she was. Unfortunately that was not the case. When my super senior cat started to develop some medical complications I brought her to my old vet. After a lot of confusion and missed opportunities I decided they were no longer a good fit for me or my cat. That's when I began looking for a new office. Asking around Norwich Regional was brought to my attention a couple of times. Saying that they are very good not only with regular healthy animals but also with old lady cats like mine. When I called to set up my appointment was the beginning of the exceptional service that Bella & I have received. I have seen nothing less than informative, caring, compassionate, understanding, supportive, wonderful & individuals. Dr. Lisa is AMAZING! She is similar to my old vet and I can't thank her enough! Thank you Dr. Lisa and the awesome staff!

I love going to see Dr. Lisa with my cat Bandit. Even if its just a wellness visit or when he is not feeling good like last time I was there. They took him right in and explained everything to me on what they were doing. He recovered quickly. I recommend going here if you have a cat. Also the whole staff is great too!!
