How to Save Money at Pearl Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Tran and her team are extraordinary! I found out about Pearl Veterinary Hospital by doing a Google search. I read all the amazing reviews. Wow, I wanted to take my cat there. Max was a few years old when he started going to Pearl Vet. Before attending Pearl Vet, Max was seen by two other vets in the area. The other vets were nice, but I was looking for a vet that felt right and who treated pets like theirs. Pearl Vet was definitely the right fit because we didn’t look for another vet again. Dr. Tran is very smart and knowledgeable. She provides you with a wealth of information that is very beneficial for your pet! She provides detailed information about your pet visits, and she ensures that all your questions and concerns are answered in full details. Her staff are great too! The staff are friendly and kind. I could not have asked for a better place to take Max. When we found out Max had cancer, Dr. Tran and her staff helped Max live as long as possible by providing him with vitamins, supplements, and acupuncture. I know Max appreciated and felt loved from the staff. I would definitely take my next pet here again. Pearl Vet will treat your fur baby with love and care like your pet is their own. Thank-you so much for all you do and continue to do. The families and their pets really appreciate you! Love, The McCarthy Family

Our sweet dog Cuddles was diagnosed with cancer, and as anyone with a beloved pet can imagine, it was heartbreaking! At that time Dr. Tran was recommended to me by a few people I know. I will never forget our first visit. I was so impressed with how clean the facility was. Dr. Tran sat down and took a lot of time with me going over Cuddles’ health and typing up important notes. She truly cared about Cuddles. I really appreciated the email I would receive after every visit which documented what we did that day and Cuddles’ overall health. We came in every week for a while getting acupuncture and checkups. Dr. Tran always greeted me, knew my name, my dog’s name, and even answered the phone one day when I called. This is a special place indeed. Even at the end, when there was no hope in sight, Dr. Tran recommended a medication to stimulate Cuddles appetite, and that gave us some added time. I truly believe Dr. Tran’s impeccable knowledge, the herbs, acupuncture, and medication she prescribed, gave us as much time as we could have hoped for to spend with our beloved family dog. When the dreadful day came that we had to say good-bye, Dr. Tran made time for us in her schedule that day. Dr. Tran and her staff were so kind and compassionate to us. We were not rushed. We were able to spend as much time as we needed. The process was very professional and an even better experience than putting another pet down at home a couple years earlier with someone else. A few days later, I received a lovely card signed by the entire staff. I burst into tears at this thoughtful gesture. If you are looking for an honest Vet who truly knows her profession, will care about your pet, has an amazingly trained staff, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Tran and Pearl Veterinary Hospital.

Great service. I requested a health certificate for my dog for an international travel. They explained the whole process with the DoA and were very helpful until I received the certificate. I strongly recommend their services. Also, the price is not too high.

Dr. Tran and her team at Pearl has been great with our two German Shepherds. Argos was high energy but had multiple health issues, including kidney disease, and a broken spine (which required surgery). Acupuncture treatment at Pearl produced amazing results. He recovered his mobility and his primary vet and His kidney specialist both agreed that he survived with kidney disease longer that any dog reasonably should have. When it was time for him to cross the bridge we asked Dr. Tran to help because he was so comfortable going to Pearl. The team was wonderful with everything. Now, we bring Lily (10) who was starting to have mobility issues. After a few months of acupuncture, traditional Chinese medicine, and some dietary changes she has lost excess weight, her coat looks beautiful, and her mobility issues are gone. I highly recommend bringing your pets to Pearl for acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine treatment. Dr. Tran coordinates with your primary vet and truly takes great care of pets and their owners!

I've been so grateful for Dr. Tran and her staff care for our puppy! Dr. Tran has been so thoughtful and kind as we deal with some various health issues. She's been so responsive via email and phone, taking time out to graciously talk me through the options that we have for treatment. Her staff have been so helpful to find appointment times quickly, even when they are busy. The rooms are immaculate and it's clear that the team works hard to maintain the facility so well.
