How to Save Money at UrgentVet - Carytown

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

New Year's Day and my poor guy was not feeling well. He had seen his primary vet a few days before for initial tests but he presented new and very concerning symptoms. Unfortunately it being a holiday his primary was closed. Thankfully Urgent vet in Carytown was open and they were able to see him. They gave him a look over, ran a test and were able to quickly and accurately diagnose him. He was given fluids, pain meds, antibiotics and anti-nausea meds and sent home with a regiment that has him on the right track. He is feeling so much better and is almost 100% back to his usual self. We are so grateful for the care and compassion they showed him!

I brought my senior cat here after he was showing signs of a UTI. I reserved a time online (not an appt) and was seen immediately upon arrival, it was right when they opened so I'm sure that helped. The staff was fantastic. They were kind, informative, respectful, and had a great "bedside" manner. The entire visit was about 3 hours from start to finish. When I left I felt like we had a thorough examination, my cat was fully in stable health, and I was prepared to care for him moving forward. In my experience, it was less expensive than an emergency vet. I was also able to apply for Care Credit that day and use my virtual card to pay. Thank so much team! Conky is feeling 100% better, his fur is even is growing back by his arms and on his belly where the grooming was excessive. The photo at home is the after photo and you can see how well he is. :) If needed, I would go here again in a heartbeat.

Best experience I’ve ever had at an emergency vet clinic. My dog came down with kennel cough recently and they were so nice on the phone answering a few questions I had. When we arrived, we were promptly put into a secluded waiting room. Both Precious and the vet were absolutely wonderful to work with! The vet who assisted us got on the floor with my pug, listened to my concerns and educated me on some things I had never even considered regarding her allergies as well (not even why we came but she had a few other small symptoms that may have been connected.) Thank you for your time, your care and your expertise! I would 100% recommend them to anyone who needs fast and efficient care for their fur baby.

I went here yesterday with my cat Zephyr. We didn’t even have to wait to get back to a room. The nurse who checked us in, Precious I believe is her name, was so kind and helpful. They treated Zephyr with such care as if he was their cat. The whole process of going in and getting treated only took about two hours. I highly recommend this place for anyone who needs emergency treatment for their pets.

Dr. Olsen was the only vet to ever bring my cat back from the exam room purring. We didn’t even have time to sit down either time we entered the office, because we were already in an exam room. Each vet tech we met with took the time to answer every question we have. Even the office manager was phenomenal and took the time to make sure we had all of our questions answered. I have never had anyone be so gentle and caring with my cat. When it came time to pay, they were extremely transparent about pricing and checked in multiple times to ensure we were informed about any changes in treatment cost. We left this office feeling informed and relieved. 100 out of 10 stars.
