How to Save Money at VCA Animal Emergency Critical Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had to bring our dog there a couple of weeks ago. It was late. We got there at 11:15 pm. Closing time 12 mid night. First, the woman at the desk who was supposed to let us in. She ignored us. Finally, someone from the waiting room let us in. We went up to the desk. Woman with her ear pods in looks at us holding our small dog who was in pain looked at us and said we are closing soon here is a list of places to take your dog. Next closest place was at least 40 minutes away. We were like we have 45 minutes. Thankfully, the wonderful tech came out and took our dog. The vet and tech were amazing gave our dog great care. Were patient with us explained things and all was good. We are grateful of the great care our dog received from them. However, we were so stressed and having being told to leave or not even being let in was very traumatic. If that is the actual policy, not to see pets after 11 pm so you can close on time at midnight. It should be stated on the website and have signage at the door. We would have never even wasted our time to stop there. Again , the vet and tech were wonderful.

We were not happy with the guidance given by the dr. After getting a 3rd opinion theirs being the second we realized we should have put our dog down instead of spending thousands of dollars for an overnight stay that included minimal testing. The first that we saw before here and the one we saw after were more straightforward about what we should do. They were not. We also felt we were given a sense of hope that we should not have been given. They also charged us for drugs like antibiotics they just started administering and would not let us to take the remaining antibiotics with us when we wanted to go directly to the other vets office.

I am absolutely mortified by the veterinary care I have received at this clinic. Doctors lack compassion, and are wonderful at misdiagnosing patients. Nothing like catching an attitude and a horrible bedside manner! Not to mention the rude staff. My dog was misdiagnosed and was not given a respiratory panel, and sent home. Turns out he had pneumonia and succumbed to this illness at my clinic after it was too late. No antibiotics were given. The doctor told me that "benign neglect" was a fair choice. Funny because my dog is now dead because of this. By the time another vet saw him, it was too late. I had numerous veterinarians at the other clinic tell me my dog should have gotten a respiratory panel and at the very least some sort of antibiotics. I am left now without my soul dog and angry. I am respectful towards staff, but when I was asking questions I was accused of being a hypochondriac and received eye rolls from staff. But yeah, my dog's condition was not serious, even though he had green discharge from both nostrils. And was weak. And not eating. And had a fever. Ridiculous!!!! I am so disappointed. I would never write a negative review for a clinic but use caution. I am so upset. Maybe he would have passed anyway but my one year old Labrador shouldn't be dead. Told me to wait a week and it'll "go away". I opted to have him rechecked and it was too late. Shame on you.

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Dr. Church and the patient intake coordinator, Kim. The new patient paperwork is streamlined and is actually designed for the 2am-half-asleep owners. The staff are excellent and so efficient, the initial exam occurred within 1min of walking in the door. Along with the meds being filled literally 10min after the diagnosis - they also included a pill cutter which was such a thoughtful (and honestly unexpected) addition from an emergency vet. Kim, Dr. Church, and the additional staff working that night are excellent - I am so grateful for all of them.

I recently had the heartbreaking experience of losing my beloved pet, and cannot express how grateful I am for the exceptional care and compassion provided by VCA Animal Emergency or aka The Life Centre. From the moment I walked through their doors, the staff here showed genuine empathy and support. They understood the depth of my sorrow and went above and beyond to ensure both my pet and I were comfortable throughout the entire process. Everyone demonstrated the highest level of professionalism explaining every step of the situation with patience and clarity, allowing me to make informed decisions. What truly stood out was the kindness and compassion they extended to my pet after his final moments. My boy Diesel was treated with utmost respect, and I felt reassured knowing he was in capable and caring hands. Beyond the medical care, the entire staff showed unwavering support to me, providing a shoulder to lean on during a difficult time. Their thoughtful gestures and willingness to listen truly made a difference. I highly recommend this location to anyone seeking compassionate and top-notch veterinary care. They turned a heartbreaking experience into one filled with comfort and support. I will be endlessly grateful for everything you did for me and my family during this challenging journey.
