How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This Banfield was pretty great until my dogs usual vet left. After he left the care has still been pretty good, but their most recent Vet....I'm not a fan of. Dr. Lew appears to not be good at calling patients back. My dog has been dealing with an ear infection for awhile now, so they had a special test taken and once they got the results, I would be given a call. I got a call about 2 weeks later, but I couldn't take it due to a being in a work meeting. I listened to the message and Dr.Lew wanted to discuss it in depth on the phone with me about the next steps in treatment. When I was available to call, they closed for the night, so I called the following day ( Friday) Dr was busy, was told he would call me back. Weekend goes by, didn't hear from him. Come Monday I call them, was told they will give him a message to call me back. Nothing. Tuesday, I call again, was told He was out and would be back around 2:30 and they would leave him a message. Nothing again. Called back on Wednesday, was told the Dr was out until Friday, but would ask and see if the other Vet to look at the results and give me a call. Heard nothing. It's now Friday , where Dr.Lew was supposed to be back in and I still have not heard back from him or anyone. The nurses and front staff have been great to us, so I don't doubt them when they told me they left the Dr. messages, but he is their newest Vet and so far...I am not impressed and I don't believe I will go back to him, cause I never had a vet do this before and it doesn't appear to me he gives a damn. Which is very unfortunate, cause we really do like the nurses and front staff at this location.

The entire staff is professional and friendly! Our furbaby, Louie, loves it here. We specifically drive 25 mins to this location when we have another Banfield 5 mins away. Follow his IG @louietheshiba

This location is by far the best. My dog loves everyone here, and that makes appointments so much easier. Any time I have needed a check up or had a concern the team fit me in for an appointment, or I was able to speak with someone about the health of my dog. They also have a cat room that is specifically catered to cats and their comfort, which goes above and beyond any other Banfield (or vet on general) that I have been to. I appreciate everyone here so much thank you Banfield Fox Mill!

We switched our 11 year old beagle over to our local Banfield over a year ago, and have had nothing but good experiences with the Wellness plan. She's had everything from teeth cleaning, extractions, medication, check ups, and even surgery to repair an ACL. Anything not on the plan is communicated up front, so there are no hidden surprises in care. From the kind hearted techs, knowledgeable doctors with great bedside manner, to the constant communication, I couldn't be happier with how Banfield treats my pup. Joanna wags her tail going into the vet, as well as leaving.
