How to Save Money at Stream Valley Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Corey and her team are fantastic. They have always made time to see our dog Hope when needed. More recently, she was very ill with pancreatitis. Dr. Corey was out sick, but was still home consulting and trying her best to get the best care possible for our girl. The emergency hospital we visited even noted that they rarely see vets do this. She was the only vet we consulted, who was advocating for more aggressive treatment to give our girl the best chance. I have a background with animals, and I was an Animal Science major. I know vets, and I can say with confidence that she is a gem. Thank you Stream Valley for caring for our girl so well and for having such tremendous patience with our family. We are so grateful!

Great work at Stream Valley Veterinary Hospital; being new to the area it was difficult finding a team of professionals that we could FULLY trust with out two petit Maltese (Charlie and Daisy). However, once we found Stream Valley Veterinary Hospital we were so happy to find such a caring team of professionals who "know their stuff". Led by Dr. Cory one can see why they are amazing. Since moving to Ashburn our pets have begun their transitions to "elder pups" and my little Daisy was diagnosed with cancer. Charlie has his issues but the cre provided to them both was amazing AND affordable. Compassion and caring and expert advice is what we've encountered with Stream Valley Veterinary Hospital. Our pets are better off today than they were before Stream Valley and we have Dr. Cory and her staff to thank. I'm not good with names but Chaney comes to mind as does Kylie and Rob. Chaney and Rob are two of the Vet Techs and Kylie is most often the gal that answers the phones. Each one brings to the table a sense of caring that surpasses what we've encountered in the past. Great team of professionals and I wouldn't trust anyone else with our two pups than Stream Valley Veterinary Hospital and Dr. Corey.

I’m beyond impressed with my first experience with this office! All of the staff were so so so nice and couldn’t stop helping my puppy feel at ease. Truly impressed with everyone’s kindness and tenderness with my girl. Our puppy Maya is very sociable and loves to bite on everything! They handled her like pros with love and care every step of the way. I was able to breathe a sigh of relief knowing they would take care of her in all the ways I don’t know how lol highly recommend this location and it’s wonderful staff!

I got home from work to discover my dog had a deep gash on his thigh that needed to be stitched. My vet could not take her until the next afternoon and suggested I go to the emergency vets. They were all at capacity or hours and hours of wait time. I called Stream Valley 30 minutes before they closed. They had me come in. They were so caring!

Dr. Corey has helped me with my cats for years (over a decade). I cannot say enough good things about her clinic and service. The staff are friendly and competent, and Dr. Corey really has a way with animals. She also bends over backwards to help sick pets, sometimes even providing lifesaving service at reduced cost.
