How to Save Money at Willis Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I love this place. The veterinarian and her staff are all very kind and good with my dogs. I've had to use them twice for emergencies and feared what the bill would be! Both times it was far less then I'd imagined. They don't try and recommend unnecessary things just to get more money - very straight forward. They even offer options to help curb expenses if needed. I never have to wait long and scheduling has always been fairly flexible. It is a bit of of a drive from Cleveland to Willis, but honestly, the clinic is worth it!

This vet office is absolutely amazing. I have a 5 week old kitten, munchies, who my boyfriend and I rescued and they have been nothing but the best help for us. Any question, worry, or insight I needed they went above and beyond to help munchies and explain to me. I will definitely be referring everyone I know in the willis area to this vet! Thank you all so much!!

First off, I'd like to say that the office on 1960 is better staffed than the Willis location. We originally scheduled our 6 weeks checkup for our litter of 11 at the 1960 location because we were already there getting tails docked. On our other puppy we went to the Willis location, and while there Kaylee "so called office manager" informed us that we could just come there when our pups needed their 6-week shots and that she would take care of the rest. Fast forward to today..... We showed up in Willis for our litter of 11 6-week checkups, one office girl comes in and doesn't show me the quote rather shows my wife who wasn't at the prior tail docking to see original price for 1960 location. I even stated why they wouldnt show me. When I took our puppies to 1960 for our tail docks, they told me that the 6 weeks checkup would be right around $300 for all 11 pups. Today we got charged $566 for the same exact thing at the willis office. The office manager is going to drive this clinic into the ground. She was very rude and does not know how to speak to the customers! This clinic is under new ownership, yet you never see the new Dr./Owner here, yet ultimately the new owner is responsible for how it is run, and since she is seldom there, she is not seeing on a daily basis what is happening. After seeing now that they have such a low rating, I will have NO PROBLEM taking my thousands of dollars as well as all future litters elsewhere. I can't wait to read the response of this review from the owner. I just don't understand an additional $266 difference in clinics owned by the same person. If anyone is looking for a fair and reasonable clinic LOOK ELSEWHERE!! Great and fair priced clinics are still around. Oh, and yes, I was a customer of yours until the phone call with your office manager Kaylee as well as unreal prices i was charged today, Dr. Molly!

I had a wonderful experience here today with my new frenchie. The doctor, as well as the staff, were friendly, accommodating and very hands on. They were knowledgeable about the breed, provided great insight into the “frenchie” ways and was so loving to my fur baby. The doctor administered her shots in the room with me and made us feel very comfortable. The only time Maddy was taken into the back was for her fecal exam and to have her nails trimmed. I was very pleased with their service. Oh, they were SOOO affordable! That was a huge plus! I highly recommend this clinic.

My spicy feline needed a tooth extraction. They got to it all in one day! I was so happy to have my guy taken care of and on the road to recovery. They are very knowledgeable and accommodating.
