How to Save Money at VCA Saginaw Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is not our regular vet, but we had to come here as ours did not have an appointment. Very impressed with Dr Smartt and staff. She saved our puppy’s life by surgically removing a toy that was causing a bowel obstruction. We were very stressed about the financial implications and surgical recovery of such a young puppy, but she talked us through everything and was very open and blunt about risks, cost, and possible outcomes. We are super happy with the care and attention to detail. Thank you, Dr Smartt!

My dog’s appointment was such a great experience I don’t know where to start! 1) the waiting room is really well designed so if you have reactive dog there are places to go so he/ she has space. There is a dog run behind the receptionist desk so you avoid dogs sitting in the waiting room and if that isn’t enough space there is door to the outside right by the exam room and the vet tech sat with my dog while I paid and we snuck out the side door. 2) They ran on time. 3) possibly the most important part of the review so I should have made it 1st!!! Dr Wallace Graham is the kindest vet I have been privileged enough to work with. I’m so grateful for how well he worked my high anxiety dog, I teared up in the car. I have paid ridiculous fees to see a vet that was “fear free certified professional” and they weren’t as good with Oliver as Dr. Wallace. I’m a software engineer by education and not a vet but from one person that problem solves for a living to another, I felt really comfortable and trusted the way he thought through concerns with my dog and I appreciated his way of explaining them to me so I could make optimal choices. 4) the front desk staff is very friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and organized. 5) VCA’s prices are fair. Not the cheapest. Not the most expensive. 6) it’s a private parking lot not a shopping center so I felt really safe getting in and out of my car with my dog. Conclusion: I feel really confident recommending any one booking an appointment here for their beloved dog(s)!!! I hope this helps! I know vet care is such an important decision.

I don’t understand these bad reviews. We’ve been here several times for my cat and dog. My cat was severely hurt in a fight, and my dog has eye issues and needed some masses removed. We love Dr. Lanier, and all of the staff. We’re more of a natural remedy, wait and watch family, and feed our dog homemade dog food. Dr. Lanier is kind, compassionate, understanding and respectful. We’ve had nothing but good experiences here. I recommend VCA to everyone.

I have started using VCR Saginaw Animal Hospital the past 6 months. Unfortunately, today, August 22 of 2024. I had an emergency with my teacup Pomeranian., I called the location. They told me to hold on. They would check with the doctor. Came back on the line and said come on in and we'll work you in so naturally I rushed over and brought over the blood feces, specimens. when Dr. Smith came to talk to me after they did bloodwork, (she asked me why I came to this location instead of going to a ER veterinarian hospital) because they could not take care of this type of medical emergency. However they did do a CBC blood draw, attempted to do the blood analysis, but their equipment wouldn't work correctly, they should have advised me to leave and go to the ER prior to doing . instead they proceeded to do work, and their equipment wasn't working right so they couldn't complete it. I was told to go to the hospital with my dog immediately and they would transfer the records.. when I called for the transfer of the records, they refused to do it and said it was against the law so now I'm filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and I'm gonna hire an attorney and take them to court. I love animals so my advice do not use VCR Saginaw veterinarian Hospital they are not a hospital that's false advertisement. They cannot take care of serious conditions. They're basically physical and shot veterinarians which they should advertise that.. with this said, I will say that Dr. Sarah Smith is a very excellent doctor and caring veterinarian. However, the medical Director and the receptionist staff are very uncaring. They don't follow the doctors instructions and this could've cost me my dogs life so if you love your animals do not go here!

Me and my family are extremely disappointed, We had to put our old family dog down due to emergency health issues, and we scheduled an appointment at 8:45. We were running 10-15 minutes behind due to medical issues getting him there. We were told at arrival, because we were 15 minutes late, that the doctor was booked up and we’d have to sit and wait to put our family dog down by Elizabeth. Elizabeth works at the front desk and has no empathy. I have been going here for 8 years now, I will not be returning because of her pathetic attitude towards our situation.
