How to Save Money at Wags 2 Whiskers Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Doc Holiday is a blessing. We tried two other veterinary clinics after our long time veterinarian moved, and we finally found the Best!! She is very knowledgeable and caring and she knows how to calm your baby. She solved my baby’s eating problems. It’s amazing that all the staff have that same demeanor as the Doc with your fur baby. They are like the staff at Chic-fil-A that states, “My pleasure.” You get that same feeling that it’s their pleasure to meet your needs for your baby and your pet will love the attentive care given. My “Bear” wags his tail when going inside as he feels safe and loved.

Dr. Holliday gives us and our fur babies her undivided attention. She is alway attentive to our questions and concerns. The staff is also professional, very nice and helpful. Alas, we lost our two littermate cats, Jack and Gypsy three weeks apart to lymphoma. A couple months later we decided to get two kittens, one a black 5 month old boy named Finn, who came fully vaccinated and neutered and the other 4 month old female we named Jazz, a half siamese who needed the works, including a bath and defleeing. Both met Dr. Holliday and her wonderful staff immediately for all necessary procedures that ranged from a simple nail clip and blood work to a spaying. It seemed like we were taking one or the other once a week there for a while! Yesterday, I noticed my blue-eyed girl had one brown eye, the same eye that had a minor scratch in the pink area of her eye that Doc had already treated over a month ago. It was 4:10 PM on a Friday and hour and 20 minutes from closing! I frantically called the vet and they said bring her in immediately though they had been dealing with emergencies all afternoon. It would appear that she has inflammation of some kind and will possibly need additional treatment. We were so thankful they worked us in and gave us a triage protocol until Monday when doc will reevaluate the situation and set up a treatment plan. In the mean time she eliminated scratches to the lens and fever, assuaged our fears, listed patiently and attentively to all our questions and cat tales before instructing us to continue the use of the meds used for her earlier eye injury, which should at the very least so the the eye and hit a possible infection with antibiotics. Update: Jazz's eye slowly turned back to blue over the weekend, news Doc was happy to hear when she called to check on our little girl. Since then she has been her happy inquisitive and talkative self.

Dr. Holiday is phenomenal! However Krista (or Krystal?) at the front desk is so incredibly rude and unpleasant that I truly avoid calling or booking appointments. Her demeanor makes me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. I had hoped that the first few encounters were just because she was having a bad day, but no….she is just rude. Ruins the experience and unfortunately takes away from the great care that Dr. Holiday and the vet techs provide.

Unfortunately, we called at approx. 10:30AM on Fri, Aug 16, and was greeted immediately with rudeness. We inquired about in-home euthanasia for our 16 year old but very well loved dog. She stopped us and belittled us, interrupting us with a "FIRST OF ALL..." & telling us thats only for current customers and that they aren't even accepting new customers right now and treated us like bad people. That was not the customer service we expected, it's an upsetting time having to arrange the time for your furry friend, let alone to be treated like an idiot by someone who is handling the customer service of a veterinary hospital. I do not think everyone that works here are angry & rude people, but unfortunately, the one answering the phone for the voice of Wags 2 Whiskers on this day IS - and put a very sour taste in our mouths for this place of business.
