How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

As a first time dog owner this was a terrible experience for me. The lady at the front had a smart tone and the assistant for the doctor acted liked she really didn’t want to be there nor assist with any of my concerns. I was charged when I didn’t even have to be because had they actually looked at the account I have set up I had $40 worth of points that could’ve been used instead I was charged out of pocket & because I was not pleased with my service i definitely didn’t let my dog have any services done here I will be taking him elsewhere. If you don’t like your job change it and pick a better tone when speaking to first time people who have no idea what to expect. I would rather drive an additional 30 minutes then come up the street to this Vetco.

I would give a higher star rating. However, last year, I took my 3 furry friends (cats) to get their shots. It went well for all 3 cats it was just over 300 dollars. That was a fair deal. A year goes by, and it's time to update my cats vaccine shots. I called them 2 days ago, and the call center set me up for an appointment with vetco and told me that with all 3 cats, the total would be about the same. They even broke down the price for each cat and itemized everything. I went there with my cats, and it cost me over $570 for all 3 cats. I explained to Nichole that we were quoted just over 300 for all 3 cats. She told me that since I went to the mobile clinic, it was cheaper, even though they used the same facility. I explained that the call center quoted me 300 dollars. She looked at the notes, and nothing was said about a quote. So, I ended up paying over 570 dollars. Be careful, everyone, make sure it's a mobile clinic, and make sure you get what they said to you in writing. I'm NOT very happy. However, they did take care of my cats.

I was very pleased with the care my cat received at Petco. I liked the fact that after the examination and procedure, the veterinarian introduced herself and informed me about the exam and procedure. She also gave me an opportunity to ask questions. I will go back to Vetco care when I need a veterinarian.

Brought our 6 month old Golden/Lab on Thursday for a somewhat urgent appt. I was able to make an appt day of and get right in. Can’t say enough about Dr. Edwards! She was wonderful. She was friendly, took her time to explain everything thoroughly, didn’t push tons of tests and treatments on us, and was very easy to talk to. We’ll definitely be using this location again.

This vet office is exceptional! From the friendly front desk help to the animal care. They really take their time with you and your pet. The tech was so helpful with tips and suggestions for my cat and the vet was extremely caring and answered all my questions in detail. I highly recommend taking your pet here.
