How to Save Money at Lubbock Small Animal Emergency Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My little buddy Charlie hurt his leg playing with our bigger dog Dakota, we called the animal hospital at 4:am Sunday morning after he woke up screaming in pain. It was amazing to find out they were the only 24/7 animal hospital within 100's of miles open on Sunday, let alone at 4am. We took him in, they were so nice and were able to see him right away. The staff were so professional. The hospital was clean and spotless. They took such good care of him, took some x-rays of his leg, and explained to us what they found and Further more, they prescribed and filled his medications right there. I would definitely recommend this hospital to anyone I know. Thankyou guys for taking care of our baby.

I brought my cat Cheddar in this morning and was very pleased with the level of service here! When I called ahead of time, the office assistant informed me that the office fee is less between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm. Waiting just a couple of minutes saved me $75. I appreciate her being forth right. They treated Cheddar with empathy, and they are very transparent about pricing before they start any diagnostics or treatment. The individual line items were only slightly higher than my normal vet. I’ve never had to use emergency animal care, but I feel better knowing that this place is a viable option!

This emergency animal clinic was amazing and the staff are so kind. We had to drive almost two hours for our puppy to get checked because she was attacked. Unfortunately, she did not make it but they did everything possible to make us comfortable as well as her. They truly do everything they can for your pet and that’s all you can ever ask for. Although it costs us over $500 for the visit, X-rays, anesthesia, and I believe some other stuff, it truly is all worth it to try and save your pet and make them feel as comfortable as possible. I can’t thank the staff enough for doing what they could and honoring her memory. Adding a photo of her since she was so young and just so sweet.

I drove all the way from Midland to come to this emergency vet, and I do it again 1 million times over. The staff was kind and empathetic. They care. They’re honest in their pricing and have fantastic communication; they tell you your options and explain everything in great detail before just charging you for random procedures. If you come here, please be understanding that there is only one veterinarian. They do everything they can to help your pet. Without a shadow of a doubt, I would make the 2 hour drive again then to trust any emergency veterinarian in Midland.

My beloved cat was returned to me after a 2 month absence. Dr. Manders provided an excellent well-check with fantastic advice and an incredible bed-side manner. She did as much to care for my state of mind and assure me we were in good shape as she did for my precious pet.
