How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Smith saved my 14 year old dog’s life! Last Friday Dixie was panting heavily and I described her breathing to Dr. Smith. She said to bring her to VEG as it was certainly not normal. When I arrived at VEG, Dr. Smith immediately began care for Dixie It was discovered that Dixie had a fever that had spiked to 107! Immediate action by the VEG team was taken to lower her fever. I loved the open concept of this establishment. We were able to be next to Dixie, who periodically looked at us for comfort - I could tell she was glad to see us there with her. We were also informed of everything that they were doing to Dixie and why. All of our questions were answered in a kind and knowledgeable manner. Everyone at VEG worked extremely well together as a team. Dixie had to stay overnight and I continued to be informed what was happening with her after we had left, which was comforting. Also, when I was there I noticed how quickly the staff went into action as soon as an incoming client called. They were most definitely prepared as soon as someone walked in the door! This is the best Emergency Vet that I have ever been to and I most definitely highly recommend it.

I want to begin by saying that this place treats you like family during such a vulnerable time. Dr. Cassie and the team are true angels on Earth. I felt incredibly blessed to have my sweet baby surrounded by love during his stay. Dr. Cassie kept me informed every step of the way and provided so much comfort. She even checked on us the next day after leaving. They even created a charming wrap for his catheter. While I’m heartbroken that my fur angel has gone to pup Heaven, I am deeply grateful for the team’s dedication and care while he was there.

Had an absolute amazing experience. Have ferrets. So sometimes having exotics, it's very hard to find emergency care. The other "hospital" I to in grapevine is nothing like this. This place is cutting edge with open floor concept, so everything is done right in front of you for your nerves and the pets . Vets and staff are very friendly and very knowledgeable. They definitely have my business in the future ! Thank yall

I took my cat Lucky in yesterday for a very life threatening situation. From the moment we walked in, the whole entire staff was extremely attentive. I want to thank Dr. Knapp, Dr. Moleti, Natalie, Sharonda, Jamie, Anthony, Valerie and the rest of the staff for taking such amazing care of Lucky, my mom, and I during the process. They nursed him back to health and gave us hope for the days ahead. I’d highly suggest VEG Grand Prairie for anyone seeking ER vet care! You’ll leave knowing your fur kid was in the best hands and treated like family.

My sweet Lady bug had to be put to sleep this morning. She was in unbearable pain. I called to inquire about bringing her in right away. They met me at the door when we arrived and held the doors open for us. We went to a private room and I was not rushed at all. They treated my sweet girl with dignity. They handled my heartbreaking situation which such kindness and empathy. I can recommend 10000%.
