How to Save Money at Ridgefield Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It was Friday and I HAD to get my new kitten to the Vet. I had adopted her from an Animal Shelter 7 days prior. She had stopped eating and was having diarrhea. I called the Animal Shelter and they said, "Once you adopt them they are your responsibility." They told me she was 6 weeks old when I adopted her. But, I've raised kittens all of my life and I told them she wasn't any older than 4 weeks. I called our Vet first. They didn't have an appointment until a week later. I continued calling every Vet in our area. I got the same thing from all of them ... No appointment available. The last Vet I called was Ridgefield Animal Hospital. They told me to bring her in at 4:00 PM. It was a blessing to get an appointment because I had one very sick kitten. She had an intestinal bacteria. Dr. Hewitt was wonderful to our kitten and to us. He said every kitten in thar litter will have the same thing. And so would the Mama cat which was who the kittens got it from. I notified the Animal Shelter by email telling them that they better contact each person who had adopted a kitten from this litter. Whether they do or not I don't know. But I have my doubts. I was given medicine for a week to treat my kitten. I'm praying that she will pull through. I fell in love with her as soon as she was posted on the Shelter'ls Site. She and I are very attached to one another. I can't bear to lose her. My Husband and I highly recommend Dr. Hewitt at Ridgefield Animal Hospital. You will love him and his entire staff. They are all about the care of your pet and not about the dollars as most Vets are ! Glenda

If i could give zero stars, I would. Our dog has been going to this vet her whole life. She is 9.5 years old now. When she was 1, she jumped out of a car window. Little did we know, she had ruptured her diaphragm. Took her to dr Hewitt because she seemed to be having breathing issues. For 4 months we kept taking her back there to address new issues. He never once prayed her! Oh, she has a UTI ..oh. she has respiratory infection. Finally, my dog was so emaciated and vomiting that i demanded something be done. So, he did an xray. All of her organs were up in her chest cavity!!! He did surgery and luckily she made it through. I was done at that point. But, my husband said he saved her life and we should continue. I did. Here we are now. Our dog hadn't pooped for over 5 days and was vomiting. Took her in. No xray, only bloodwork and physical exam. He said she had a gastric infection and gave her antibiotics. I kept calling giving updates. She wasn't really acting right and I knew she was in pain. I took her in again, and and Dr Hewitt dismissed me. Didn't even take her back. 2 days later, she was bleeding, vomiting, and in Terrible distress. Rushed her to 5 Rivers emergency. My dog had life threatening pyometra!!!! They did surgery and I then had to transport her to UT. Dr Hewitt is a terrible terrible vet. Please don't go there!!!! When I called to tell them what happened, all I got was "oh my". We've paid them thousands of dollars over the years and they could've cared less. Thank GOD our baby survived.

They helped my kitty when he couldn’t urinate on his own, and helped with my constant phone calls. Took care of him for a week, and even an extra day after i took him back because i was unsure if he was getting better. my cats doing great! thank you, plus they didn’t cost me much, granted any vet bill is expensive but this was no near what i was expecting. Update: he did have to be returned, my kitty was malnourished and was hanging on by a thread. I decided to take him else where for a second opinion, before I left I asked if he had a chance to make it, they told me we were near the stage to consider to put him down, the other place told me otherwise, they told me his bladder was empty, they other place said he was full. The care here seemed great for non-threatening treatment but if you want the best help for life-threatening I wouldn’t suggest. Sevier County Animal Clinic has so far done wonders, and my kitty that hasn’t been eating, has ate something today there.

I brought my cat in and specifically asked for a blood pressure and blood work because she was going blind. She was sent home with nothing but an antibiotic shot. No blood pressure was done. The vet stated that he did not believe it was blood pressure related. Took her to UT a week later and her blood pressure was very high (225 to be exact, ut said they like it to be around 160 or below). She came home with blood pressure meds to take twice a day along with 2 different eye drops every 8 hours and eye ointment that was obviously needed just from looking at the marks on her eyes from not being able to completely close due to the eye bulging. So after paying Ridgefield over $500 for absolutely nothing, I would suggest becoming more educated if pets lives rely on our decisions.
