How to Save Money at Vision Vets For Pets

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had a great experience here. We drove 2 hours because our Great Dane was having eye issues (again). They were able to work in his surgery the same day as the consultation. This was our Dane’s second eye surgery so we were familiar with what was going on. All of the staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to help us and our dog. I could not recommend this place enough!

After 9 long weeks of trying (and failing) to heal my super‑mutt’s eye ulcer with our regular vet, we were referred to Vision Vets for Pets. I called, and to my pleasant surprise, they got us in 2 days later. Within 30 minutes, Dr. Lewin and his team had a diagnosis (a pesky eyelash disorder called ectopic cilia), a treatment plan, and surgery scheduled just three business days out. These folks are FAST. My dog had cryosurgery, and within 48 hours her eye was already looking better. At the 8‑day follow‑up the ulcer was completely healed, and she’s back to her happy, zooming self. The team is skilled, compassionate, efficient, and the clinic is spotless and comfortable. I can’t recommend them enough — Vision Vets for Pets is truly 5‑star eyeball rescue!

The best veterinary eye specialist in East TN! I was referred to Dr. Lewin by my primary vet for an adenoma that had come up in my 12 year old Great Dane's eye. They worked us in the next morning for an evaluation. From the moment we walked in the door we felt welcomed and a priority. Dr. Lewin, Kathy, Cheryl and his entire team took the time to offer special care for my dane with mobility issues. Dr. Lewin explained all the treatment options and risks associated with my dog's condition clearly. We decided to have the eye removed. They scheduled surgery in a timely manner and was so amazing at communicating with my primary veterinarian.I was so nervous about my 12 year old dane going under anesthesia. They were all so reassuring and addressed any concern I had. His expertise and knowledge made me feel completely at ease. He has given my best friend more quality time with her family and I am forever grateful for that! This team is the absolute kindest and you will not regret putting your trust in them.

I adopted my dog, Millie, as a senior a few years ago and always wondered why her eye was a little different. Due to other health concerns with her, I've always pushed this off since it wasn't bothering her and we had other priorities to get her healthy. She was finally stable, so it was time for her eye appointment! I only have one day off during the week, but was pleasantly surprised that they had availability the following week! Millie is a nervous dog when out of her comfort zone, but she loves people and makes friends easily. Some vets are immediately weary of her due to her breed and anxiety, and this leads to more anxiety and a stressful visit for both of us. I'm thrilled that this was not the case here! She was greeted and treated with kindness and no judgement. She made quick friends with Dr. Lewin and Lilly! Millie enjoyed her vet visit for probably the first time ever!! I had answers to all of my questions and Millie's condition very quickly and I'm relieved that it wasn't anything too serious! Vision Vets for Pets will be my first call or referral choice for any future eye or vision needs for Millie or future pets who need it! Highly recommend for all pet vision needs!!

Dr. Lewin & the staff are amazing. I took my two Border Collies for OFA exams, one that would easily go home with a stranger and the other very nervous around new people and especially men. Dr. Lewin worked with my nervous guy smoothly and it was a very positive experience for my feral farm boy. No more waiting months for a specialist appointment either and he has flexibility for emergencies as well.
