How to Save Money at Jonesborough Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I drove all the way from North Carolina hour and a 1/2 5 minutes late barely. Well, let's see if we can still see you. Second, thanks. Okay, but you'll have to wait. Third thing first time visit for the exam. And one shot. A 140 bucks didn't even bother to tell me anything about the skin disorder. Whether it's a yeast infection, a fungus, Bacteria allergy or even something better to feed him Doctor looked at it one time said it's cancer. We have to cut it out. They printed out the bill (140). Along with the estimate fourteen hundred dollars provided , there are no complications... Several other veterinarians stated that I don't see how they can say it was cancer without a test. They didn't even offer test for the skin allergy. They didn't offer tests for anything. About what might be causing the problem. My final thoughts, old guy. dogs old. easy money ! We'll never see him again. Get the cash. Say Goodbye. No point in wasting our time. Judging a book by its cover. Yes, I am old. I needed a shave. I was exhausted. I have 2 broken down cars. I had to hire someone else to drive me and I'm trying to. Spend every dime I have. On my animal to keep him alive

I am a breeder and take pride in our dogs. I appreciate this vets office. They have been there for us through good times and sad times. They have always treated our family of dogs wonderfully. I am picky on vets and tried a few before settling in with Jonesborough Animal Hospital. Eight doctors make it easy to get an appointment yet, you can always request your favorite vet. I also find them affordable and am able to pass that on to our adoptive families. Thank you to the entire crew over there. Y’all do a great job!

Friendly, caring staff. Excellent care. Moderate prices. They saved my dogs broken leg. No one else within 100 miles could help him. He is doing great now and leg is almost healed. Thank you Jonesborough Animal Hospital!

If I could give this place negative 5 stars, I would. This place is TERRIBLE!!! I wish I had read all the 1 star reviews before taking my dog here. The staff is beyond rude, especially Stephanie at the front desk. It's obvious that all they care about is the money. They have no empathy for their customers. All they want to do is charge a TON of money for test after test, but after spending well over $1000 in just a few days, they were still clueless about what was going on with my dog. A few minutes on ChatGPT gave me way more information than I got from this place after several expensive days. They do their best to add as many charges to your bill as possible. For example, they took my dog's blood pressure and charged me $80 for it! That is ridiculous! Since they did that without getting my approval upfront, I asked for the $80 to be credited to my account to use on a future visit, but they rudely denied me. They would rather loose a good customer, that has spent thousands of dollars here, than credit me $80 for an error on their part! Another example is when I scheduled another re-visit checkup, and they tried to charge me double the money for a full office visit because none of the other vets that had seen my dog were available! I hate that every time you go here, you see a different vet. I so much prefer having one trusted vet who knows my dog and me. All I can say is, read through the 1 star reviews before thinking about going here. This place is HORRIBLE and you will be better off going anywhere else than here!
