How to Save Money at Robinson Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our blind Australian shepard loves the staff at Robinson. It makes her comfortable to visit the vet instead of being scared and reluctant to enter the building. I usually can always get into the clinic same day when calling early for an urgent appointment. Which is more than I can say for any office in my local area. These folks are great with all of my animals. We especially love Dr. Hinkle and so does Ruby.

The staff at Robinsons are amazing. We had to have our boy put to sleep in 2023,and we couldn't have asked for more love and compassion, they were so gentle and caring with him. When we got our new baby,Bria they have been her care team since the beginning, she loves them and Dr.Josh Hinkle is the best. I recommend them to everyone who loves their furry babies. Many thanks for all they do for our pets.

Robinson Animal Hospital has been amazing at every step of the way from our cats' first vet visits, routine exams and even end of life care for our senior dog. The staff at all three locations show such warmth, empathy and support. Scheduling isn't awful for non-emergency situations and all of the pet emergencies we have experienced were met with expeditious care. I feel like my money has been well spent on my pets care here. Unfortunately vet care is expensive. However the piece of mind from knowing that my fur babies are loved and cared for and that the staff grieves and celebrates each pet's story is simply incredible. I find some solace in the passing of my senior dog because transfering his care to Robinson provided him with pain relief and better days than he had previously been experiencing.

Robinson's has such wonderful and caring employees and doctors. We have been to all three locations and have seen 3 different doctors. Each one has been so good with our westies and husky...even getting down in the floor with them. We just saw Dr Hinkle and he was so thorough and compassionate, also have seen Dr Sybers and Dr Knisley who was great also. I would definitely recommend Robinson's. We even bypass our local vets and travel 30 minutes because of how good they have been

Dr. Hinkle treated my cat Satan in 2024 and provided excellent, compassionate care. Believing this reflected the standard at Robinson’s Animal Hospital, I returned this year when Satan started showing symptoms of cystitis. Eight days after the first appointment, I lost him. Dr. Kahn (Watauga) was empathetic, patient, and thorough during this visit while Satan was abnormally fractious, and I appreciated her approach. My only feedback is the importance of recommending bloodwork for senior cats before administering a long acting and irreversible medication like Convenia. My experience with Dr. Pissacano (Watauga) was less positive. His tone and wording felt dismissive of my concerns, and essential diagnostics were not recommended before prescribing another medication that may compete with protein binding, Onsior, on top of Convenia which could cause adverse reactions. At my final visit to the People’s Street location with Dr. Presnell, no physical exam was performed before additional medication was prescribed, and again diagnostics were not offered despite Satan’s continued decline. The next day, at a different veterinary practice, significant underlying issues were identified immediately through routine bloodwork. Satan was in critical condition, hospitalized overnight, but did not improve. His prognosis was so poor that I made the decision to ease his passing. I cannot help questioning whether these issues could have been found sooner, or whether they were worsened or caused by medications that should not be given without first confirming organ function. While some providers showed genuine care, and I am grateful to Dr. Hinkle for listening to my concerns and refunding my last two visits, I am deeply concerned about the inconsistent level of care depending on which doctor is seen.
