How to Save Money at CVETS - Veterinary Urgent Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Took our fur baby to their emergency hospital when he had a partial/focal seizure out of the blue. He is 6 years old and has never had a seizure before. Got seen immediately and they checked him out. Vet put us at ease that our little boy is fine. She explained why he could have had the seizure . And we never knew about that place until today! It was clean, professional, staffed by pet caring employees who were concerned about our little boy's health. We will definitely be keeping them in mind if we have another emergency. (no offense meant at all but we dont ever want something like that to happen again, sorry but we hope to never need you again) Yes, it's pricey but was well worth every penny to us. Our pets ARE our children and we never want them to be sick and will pay whatever it takes to get them back to health. It was a 47 minute drive, I wish they were closer but still very happy to have access to their facility.

Had to take my weimaraner, Chance, in last Sunday because something happened to his eye. The staff was absolutely amazing and Chance was very well behaved (proud momma here) A week on heavy antibiotics and eye drops and my beautiful boy is all healed up!! I appreciate the care and compassion. Y'all are the best!

My dog got a stick lodged in the top half of her mouth between her teeth. My dog and I were both incredibly frantic but CVETS Urgent Care was phenomenal. The tech came out and took her straight from me and they had me sign for potential sedation but they were able to remove it without sedating (saving me money overall). So incredibly thankful for this team and their quick response! The community desperately needed something like this. From me and my 10 year old fur baby, thank you thank you thank you 🙏🏻 Also, the facility was very clean and staff were so friendly and professional. 10/10 highly recommend

Around 1:30pm yesterday (Saturday) we were getting ready for a wedding at 5:30 (2 hour drive away) and noticed our girl Remi was chewing on a plastic eyebrow razor. Not ideal, and we realized the blade was missing! She's never been a chewer. Even though she's part aussie/part husky, she's never been prone to mischief. Quickly we had to assume she must have swallowed the blade. Jumped into action and called CVETS. Thankfully the Sunset Blvd location is five minutes from us. We've never needed an emergency vet trip before, so I didn't know what to expect. They told us to bring her in ASAP. There was no wait. We were very overdressed as we came in our formal wedding clothes in the event she was okay... we would be able to hit the road right away. They immediately got radiographs done and saw the pieces of razor blade in her stomach. They presented a couple of treatment options, and ultimately everything that went down came back up with no issues or damage. Dr. Hubbell and Marissa explained everything to us along the way and said Remi was totally fine and would sleep the rest of the night. There were a couple of other staff members who helped--I wish i could remember everyone's name! We were on the road to the wedding by 4:30 and made it to cocktail hour! Remi is her happy self; she appreciated the extra attention, love, and care she received. The total cost was less than I expected, but I received all the necessary documentation to submit to our dog insurance company and the claim has already been approved less than 24 hours after the incident. It was a clean and beautiful facility. The staff were all attentive and professional. I hope we don't EVER have to go back, but if we do, I would feel totally at ease with my animals in their care. Thank you CVETS!!

We brought my Belle in this past weekend after an about a week and a half of her declining. I had taken her to our regular vet a few days prior for bloodwork and treatment, which wasn’t working. I was fairly certain when I took her in this past weekend to CVETS, that I would leave without her. She was my best friend for 16 years. I have had her since I was in 4th grade. She was my best friend and so much more than a dog. She went everywhere with me, including college and grad school. She was with me through everything. Losing her was losing part of myself. Dr. Powalie was incredible with her and with my husband and me. She was so compassionate. She explained how selfless we were being in making this decision for Belle. She gave us all the time we needed with her. She walked us through every step. We had a very short wait time in the waiting room and were able to leave through a side door to avoid walking past all the new patients. I am so thankful for the staff here. Thank you for taking care of my sweet Belle.
