How to Save Money at Sangaree Animal Hospital at Cane Bay

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Conner arrived feeling unwell, and the doctor along with the vet tech demonstrated exceptional skill in promptly identifying my pet's ailment. They swiftly transferred him to a reputable pet hospital, where he received top-notch care. I greatly appreciated the follow-up call from the staff to inquire about his condition the following day. The team's compassion, friendliness, and dedication to both pets and their families truly stood out to me.

Amazing place! All the Doctors and staff are wonderful! If they are booked for the day they will immediately call you to see if you can come for an appointment that canceled. Dr. Christine Eidson cared for my 16 year old fur- baby very well and made my decision that no one wants to make very soothing and comforting. Thank you to you and all your staff.

My dog was a new patient and they had access to her records. She was fully vaccinated, radiologist readings, blood work, and had her teeth cleaned in the past couple years. They ordered new X-rays and I didn't blink that it cost over 500 dollars. Money is not an issue when it comes to any of my pets. She was diagnosed with a heart murmur. She was getting worse and I knew she was suffering. Long story short I knew it was time to put her to sleep. The doctor wanted to try one more drug. Of course you listen to the doctor. After the doctor left the room the hired temp vet tech belittled me for wanting to put her to sleep. I told her she was a rescue and she stated "How long have you had your dog" I told her I've had my dog 6 years. Then she said "Oh I was going to tell you to take her back to the rescue center instead of killing her" I left because I was in shock and didn't say anything. My dog died 2 days later. She suffered because I didn't have time to rush her to the hospital. Now I have to live with knowing I should've following my heart and put her to sleep. I should've told the vet tech to shut the hell up and demanded to talk to the vet again. PLEASE PLEASE remember you might see a vet tech that is not employed there. When I called to tell them what happened that was their excuse. She isn't employed with us. PLEASE READ THEIR REPLY!!!! WE ARE SORRY FOR YOUR DISSATISFACTION. I feel like I just returned an item to Walmart. I live in a retirement community and I've been spreading the word to avoid this place. The feedback is that people have heard bad things and they will spread the word about my precious dog.

I have been bringing my pets to Sangaree Animal Hospital for 24 years. I started at the Sangaree location & switched to the Cane Bay location because it's closer to home. The doctors & staff are amazing, caring & professional people. The most difficult thing for a pet owner is saying goodbye to a beloved family member & they are incredibly compassionate when that unfortunate time comes. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

My dog had an ear infection and they were able to see us the same day! Everyone from the front desk (Melissa) to the technicians (Kris) were very thorough and kind. My girl was crazy but the doctor loves her! Thank you Dr Reyes!
