How to Save Money at On Point Animal Wellness

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can't say enough good about this veterinary hospital. The staff are so accommodating. Dr Andrew takes great care of my senior pups. Saved my sweet Bellas life last year. Thought we were going to lose her. She's 15 and had alot going on. First Vestibular disease then pancreatitis. It was alot. But with the excellent care she got through On Point she's still with us. And doing very well. You may have to wait awhile if your a walk in, but I'd rather wait and have my babies taken care of.

I would not recommend On Point in Murrells Inlet. I’ve been a client of On Point in Surfside Beach for 5 years so when I made an appointment for my sweet babies for an ear plucking and to treat ear infections…I thought easy peezy when Surfside recommended Murrells Inlet. When they took my Delilah in the back…I had never heard such horrible screams from her…it was heart breaking. It wasn’t a normal yelp…she was in serious pain. After getting my babies home, Delilah was lethargic and she was not able to open her right eye. She slept four days straight and barely moving to where I felt she would not make it. I called On Point at Surfside Beach, when I explained what happened (yes, I was upset) they put me through to On Point in Murrells Inlet…I was advised they could not handle any type of issues like that. Delilah was a happy healthy little girl till they worked on her. They told me I would have to deal with On Point Surfside so I took her in and they attempted to help with no success. It’s now 5 weeks later and I had no choice but to switch vets after five years…I do not trust them with my dogs health. Delilah eye sight has suffered in her right eye which has been a battle to treat. Her hearing has been jeopardized. She’s no longer the happy HEALTHY baby she was before I entrusted On Point in Murrells Inlet. I’m thankful I was able to find a vet that actually care about my animals rather than how many $90 walk-in they can get.

I highly recommend this establishment for any vet needs for your furbabies. I am from out of town and wanted to go on a little vacay with my fur baby but she requires fluids three times a week for kidney help.(she's 16) So I needed to find a vet in the area to administer her fluids while we were there. From the first conversation that I had with Megan on the phone at the front desk I felt at ease. I had to pay a first initial visit for a check out to be established as a client and after that when I had to come back for fluids the second time I did not need an appointment. From start to finish they were super kind, caring, and diligent about their work. All the staff is super sweet but Jack especially listen to my concerns and just loved on my little Sugar. Thank you guys and you will always be my vet in Myrtle Beach!

Brought my new puppy to OnPoint Veterinary Clinic Murrells Inlet. Him and his brothers were found wandering in the woods of Mount Pleasant, SC. The veterinary staff was attentive and very helpful regarding my new puppies needs, promptly seen / examined, guided me in the proper direction, excellent care.

We took our 6-month-old ABD/Staffy mix to On Point for his initial vaccinations (He is a rescue). Even though he was very energetic, to say the least, the staff were WONDERFUL! Dozer is a happy camper, as are we and we look forward to going back for all of our future wellness needs. I couldn't be happier with the location of the office as well. It's nice to have services near the Inlet Square Mall that are so close and convenient for us! The office is clean, open, and large enough to accommodate multiple clients making it a very comfortable experience. We give OPAW 5PAWS! :)
