Lowcountry Veterinary Surgery
How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Lowcountry Veterinary Surgery
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Experience
Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.
Emergency Care Procedures
It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.
Communication Preferences
Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.
Breed Specific Health Considerations
Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

My dog previously underwent a closed reduction at another hospital, but the procedure was unsuccessful. Other hospital kept recommending additional treatments, and some tests I declined were still performed on my dog. Here, there was no unnecessary talk—just the surgery, with a fair and transparent price. Doc Cook patiently explained the procedure, and they provided updates before and after the surgery. The surgery went very well. I am really satisfied and appreciate what they did to my dog.

They are AMAZING! They took care of my dog, Olive, when she needed a CCL repair. Dr. Cook and Melissa and the rest of the team are the absolute best. Your pet needing surgery is a very scary thing, and they are so accommodating. I am a bit of a helicopter dog mom, and they were so sweet. They went out of their way to let me text a number with any questions, and they always responded and helped. Melissa was SO helpful, and Dr. Cook is a very kind and understanding doctor who you can tell genuinely cares about all of the animals he sees. They both were very transparent and take the time to make sure you understand everything that’s wrong and how it’ll be fixed, which was very reassuring. It’s hard to decide on a place to take care of a sick or hurt pet, but I truly couldn’t recommend them more.

Dr. Cook and his technician Melissa were fantastic! From scheduling to going over the different options for surgery, and from discussing all the possible risks for anesthesia and for recovery. As a fellow veterinarian who usually takes care of their own animals medical needs, I trusted their team with my dog and would highly recommend him to all of my clients and friends

Dr. Cook is wonderful! He's extremely knowledgeable, professional, and treats your dog as if it is his own. He takes his time to evaluate your dog to make sure that the surgery process goes smoothly. His assistant Melissa is amazing too. She returns calls promptly, extremely knowledgeable as well, and is very caring. Our dog Stanley had a TPLO done in September and is able to move around better than ever. Thank you for the wonderful care!
