How to Save Money at Island Holistic Veterinary Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Wow, this is the one of the nicest vet offices I've visited. Smart, as it puts the owner at ease during what can be a stressful visit. Reception was amazing, really made me and my kitty feel welcome. The doctor and veterinary techs/nurses were kind and took the time to bond/put my kitty at ease before the exam. I've been to a number of vets since moving to SC in 2019. This is the first one where I really felt comfortable with the care.

We were vacationing on HH & our 11 yr old Golden Retriever had an incident where her nail broke off, exposed the quik and there was a lot of blood. Dr. Victor and his AMAZING staff could not have been nicer or more compassionate. They saw us right away & were able to stop the bleeding. They also eased my mind that my girl would be OK. I was given clear instructions on how to care for the wound and the Dr provided all the supplies I needed so I didn't have to go shopping. Island Holistic Vet gets 2 paws up from the golden girl & her momma. Thank you so much for everything. :):)

I took my dogs to see Dr. Victor, at my home vet's recommendation, because I was considering home-cooked meals for them due to some nausea issues even on a hydrolyzed diet. He talked to me about what I was seeing with each dog, and rather than overwhelming me with a major how-to list, he talked through making my initial focus be finding their protein. My first protein trial was going well. I started thinking about the next steps and knew I was overthinking things, so we had a phone conversation on that topic, and he gave me another simple approach. His ability to take something so overwhelming and make it way easier than I was making it was so helpful! I also appreciate that he did not try to sell me any extras during our visit. He explained some items that may be helpful once I found the dogs' protein, but there was no pushy sales pitch, and he did not insist on a follow-up appointment. All he asked is that I let him know what proteins did and did not work for them so he could add it to their charts. The staff at Island Holistic was also wonderful! They were very friendly and on top of things during our visit. When I spoke to any of them on the phone, they were again very polite and professional. If I could offer up an opportunity for improvement, it would be about methods of contact. When I first tried to schedule their appointment, I used their website. I ended up calling about a week later because I did not hear back from them. Also, when I called with my questions about the next steps, I initially left a voicemail on a Friday afternoon. I did not hear back from anybody on the following business day, so I called again Monday afternoon and left a message with the person who answered the phone. I also left a message with his staff 2 days later. I understand this office is very busy due to its capable vets and staff, and I will not ding them for that. I just think they may want to confirm that the website contact form and voicemail are functioning properly.

After going to this clinic for a couple years we decided this wasn’t the right fit for our dog. First: Not sure where the holistic is? Dr Victor is a one man show and practices traditional vet care. Due to only one vet - when you need to get in for an eye or ear or whatever infection / injury-they don’t leave any openings and you have to wait for days or as they told us. Go to the emergency vet. Second: he never examines our dog in front of us. He always retreats to another room. Why? Third: Expensive Fourth: pushes his giant tub of glucosamine on you. After our experiences with him I do not recommend
