How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My almost 9 month old puppy escaped the yard one Sunday afternoon and unfortunately got hit by a car. Blue Pearl took my girl right in and had all hands on deck working on her. Thankfully she “only” had lacerations that needed surgical repair. It did take a little longer than we had originally been told to get that taken care of but once that was taken care of our pup was released back to us with very thorough discharge instructions. With the exception of 1 time (of many) everyone was super friendly and every time took the time to explain and answer my many questions. Overall we had a positive experience and will hopefully never have to see them again (respectfully!)

I just moved to the area, and my cat who has stress related health issues didn’t take to it well. He ended up having to be brought here or he wouldn’t have survived through the night. The staff is SO beyond friendly and kind. I couldn’t be more thankful for them. They offered us different treatment options based on what we could afford, and my cat has made such a great recovery and we have a better understanding of how to manage his symptoms and prevent a future flair up. Thank you so so much for saving Patchee’s life! The girl who was working the reception/front area that has a lot of tattoos is the nicest person ever. She was soo sweet. And whenever we called to check in, I loved that the vets would tell us that Patchee is a sweet boy or how handsome he is. They didn’t have to add in stuff like that, but it’s cute that they did.

Charlotte our Yorkie was severely injured by our other dog after she instigated a fight . We didn’t even think to call ahead since we were in such a panic . we pulled into the parking lot and a staff member came right out and opened the door for us and quickly took Charlotte back for the vet to evaluate her injuries . With in minutes we had answers and a plan for surgery . Her surgery was delayed due to other more critical procedures needing to be done . But I was made aware and the vet called me twice keeping me updated . It’s an emergency vet just like at the hospital patients are triaged by severity . I was just glad she was stable and could be helped . As far as the cost , again it’s an emergency. They are there 24/7 if you need them . That comes at a price . Being a pet owner is not cheap . But if you want the best compassionate care from all their staff this is the place ! Thank you for Saving Miss Charlotte .

My dog ate rat poison and thanks to the Drs etc… at Blue Pearl he survived! They coordinated his care with The Poison Control and Pest Company and acted quickly, which no doubt saved his life. They met me at the door and quickly attended to my dog . They made this horrible experience tolerable and because of it I owe them thanks and appreciation. They deserve a 10 star . The staff who handle the calls and billing are also amazing, pleasant and kindhearted. The office is spotless and clean. They even have coffee and tea in the waiting area and are equipped with private rooms for comfort while you wait for your pet and consultation with the dr. I wish hospitals for people were run the same way .thank you Blue pearl . The picture of my dog is to show how much better he feels and looks .

This place was incredible to work with. Our 2.5 year old pup got hit by a car a few days ago. I called ahead having no idea the extent of her injuries, giving all information I could, and letting them know we would be arriving in 30 minutes. The second we arrived, staff was prepared to take her back for examination. We had answers within minutes, left our pup in their care for a few hours to stitch her up, and were able to come back and pick her up not even 5 hours after arrival when she was back awake and alert, also sending us home with all medication she would need and clear instructions for post-op care. Now, 4 days later, our pup is healing fantastically and is expected to make a full recovery and be back to herself in a few weeks. Yes, it was an expensive trip, but all pet ER trips are, especially without insurance. We are so thankful for their help, support, and professionalism.
