How to Save Money at Wolf Run Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My dog got very sick over the weekend. I called numerous vets to try to get my dog in for poisoning. Two vets turned us away saying I needed to go to an emergency vet. I called Wolf Run I told them what happened to my dog over the weekend. They had me bring my dog in right away. Wolf Run took good care of us. My dog is alive and doing much better after two days now. I will be forever grateful and will be taking all my animals to Wolf Run from now on.

I needed to get my puppy his booster shots. Wolf Run was able to get us scheduled right away. I used Wolf Run in the past. Now under new owners. Dr. Amy and her staff are very caring and professional. She answered all questions and explained everything. Tikaani was nervous but soon relaxed. I recommend Wolf Run Veterinarian Hospital for your pet's care.

My poor English bulldog has been on an antibiotic for 2 months for a bladder infection. I’m hoping that the current antibiotic is going to help her. Her first visit was for blood in her urine. I took it in. The vet wanted a clean catch but was unable to do it. Not sure why. He tried. I wish they would have kept her until they got it. But sent her home with a antibiotic that didn’t work. So the bacteria kept growing. And they finally was able to get the clean catch on her a week later called me and changed the antibiotic.

I had high hopes when it came to this clinic. We recently had to put our dog down. The night it happened everything went as good as it would. The staff was nice. But after that everything went down hill. We were told it would take a week to get her ashes back, it took over two, okay not that big of a deal. My husband showed up to pick her up and the receptionist slammed the bag on the counter and pretty much demanded the bill be paid.. if my husband wasn’t already hurting, he then saw it was almost 400 dollars to put his best friend down. A family member had recently put their dog down here and told us it was just over 200 for her dog (who weighed twice as much as our dog). Not once we’re we informed of pricing. I know it can be a touchy subject when putting a pet down but it should at least be asked if they’d like to know about it. Then to make matter worse we got our girl home to realize they never gave/took her paw print like they were supposed to. Something we are never going to be able to get back. I know one thing and that is when it’s time for our other dog to cross the rainbow bridge we will not be bringing him here

The finest people to deal with, great services and availability. Medications available on site, no trip to the pharmacy. Longer hours than some vets and available on Saturdays. Always accommodating and helpful. I like and trust the vets at Wolf Run. Highly recommended.
