How to Save Money at MedVet Pittsburgh
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place is a joke. My husband took my 3 month old emotional support animal there because it was the only place open close to our location. His health took a totally 180 in less than a day Now I no longer have him. He is currently being murdered by these people because I don’t have 5,000 to throw at them. They are basically saying animals mean nothing to them. Us humans can go to a hospital, be completely treated for whatever the issue is and get the bill mailed to us. Why can’t we have that for pets too. They are a part of the family just like any human member. I never even got to get a pet tag made for him as I only just got him. Do NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL they claim they have options for payment and such but you can’t get approval for any type of help apparently and they refuse to treat animals as soon as u say u can’t pay right that second. I was given the options of take him home to pass on his own while suffering or euthanize him. That shouldn’t ever be a persons only options for their fur babies. Guess my little baby Nemo will be emotionally supporting me from kitty heaven at this point. Honestly I wouldn’t even give a single star to this place but not giving one at all isn’t an option

We've been to med vet numerous times over the years with each of our three pups. Most recently our little Yorkie was admitted on Saturday with a diagnosis of collapsed trachea. The care and compassion he received was second to none. From the time we walked into the ER to the evening we left with our Thor was nothing but positive. Each person we encountered including the vet techs, doctors and doctor coordinator were professional, knowledgeable and took the time to explain our fur babies condition. We never felt rushed during our experience. Thor was in respiratory distress and we originally were headed to Rivers vet because we thought it was closer to our home. We decided on med vet because it's an emergency hospital. So glad we did. You never want to end up in the ER with your pet but if you have to this is the facility you want to go to in this area. We highly recommend med vet and are extremely grateful for all the wonderful people who took such good care of our little guy.

I am so pleased with Medvet in the south hills. All of the employees were so kind. My dog & I were only there for a little over 3 hours. I greatly appreciated their professional opinion for peace of mind & appreciate them being so attentive & not having to wait there for 5+ hours or more to be seen & get answers.

Extremely happy with my experience at med vet peters. They took the best care of my pup Remi after he was hit by a car. The friendliest front desk ladies (they were so sweet and calmed me in the traumatic time), the techs, the doctors, & the entire staff were compassionate and caring, kept me updated along the way, were thorough and CARED. Dr. Shrader was great, and Dr. Miller & Dr. Snow both did Remis surgeries on his femur and pelvis. He is now in his recovering phase and doing very well. I was so pleased with this entire team. Thank YOU for doing what you do!

Dr. Leslie and his neurology team were incredibly thorough, kind, and helpful when my greyhound suddenly became paralyzed. They diagnosed her with a spinal cord stroke within 24 hours and put her on a treatment plan that worked! They have been great with sending prescription refills answering questions via email.
