How to Save Money at Cumberland Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

DR. SCOTT: Top of the line veterinarian who puts advanced knowledge and care of our four-legged friends 1st. He is building an expert team to serve our communities' furry family members. I'm excited to see how this grows! DR HOOVER: I was very impressed by this young lady. She is VERY knowledgeable, humble, and straightforward. She is an AMAZING surgeon!!!! Not only does she have extensive knowledge few have in this area, but she has ice in her veins. Even though she cares so much, she is able to set aside everything to handle all emergencies/chaos/ high-pressure surgeries. Her and Dr. Scott saved my silver lab from severe pyometra. Any leak, nick, minor mistake is death. Literally had less than 24 hrs before rupturing. She went from the brink of death to my puppy again. He watched her for 3 hours after surgery. When I picked her up, she was fine. A little star struck but a world of difference. I'm overprotective and expect the best for my family. I'm VERY hard to please. I'm telling you, I was and am so grateful for this and all the other times they were there for me. And the schedule for surgery was full, so they came in early just for stormy!! After surgery, I wanted her to check before the long weekend. Dr. Scott had no time on schedule but made time again. Then they didn't charge me!!!! I asked him too, and he said he was just happy to see she is doing great. Stitch job has NO swelling. THEN, my dogs went at it a day after surgery. I thought stitches would definitely tear. Stitches were perfect. AGAIN, they made time to bring me in to have Stormy checked!!! DR MEL!!!!: WHAT A GREAT, LOVING, KNOWLEDGEABLE PROFESSIONAL!!!!. I'm very picky on the people I do business/medical with. I got a small circle that has solid walls. Dr. Scott was off, so I needed someone to look at Stormy. I watched her like a hawk. (Better not breath wrong around my pup). She literally felt and looked over EVERY MILIMETER of Stormy immediately as we explained what happened. I questioned her a lot to figure out her knowledge. She not only passed but exceeded my wants!!! What an absolute AMAZING veterinarian. DR SCOTT IS PUTTING TOGETHER A TREAM OF HALL A FAMERS HERE!!!! SERIOUSLY!!! UNREAL!!! She did amazing. Stormy's wound was a little deep. She made sure to map out the 2 holes that ended up being connected. Left a small part open for drainage (most vets miss this and give antibiotics. Still gets infected without a small drain hole) Her staples were beautiful. Straight and evenly spaced. Think Dr. Scott may have some competition at his practice, haha. I hope this becomes a cornerstone business in our community. These people are amazing!!!! From the front end staff to the doctors. Moved from vet to vet... never satisfied. I denand excellence. Here they love their animals and treat each one as their own. I can't ask for more. THANK YOU TO THE ENTIRE TEAM AT CUMBETLAND VALLEY VET!!!! TRUELY. IM GREATFUL WE FINALLY HAVE A VET WITHIN 1HR THAT WILL TRUELY TAKE CARE OF MY DOGS PLEASE GET THE WORD OF MOUTJ AROUND.

I have finally found the most wonderful vet that is ACTUALLY affordable. They're so wonderfully kind, the doctor listens and explains everything to me, I feel like a person there, and most importantly, I know my cat's health is top priority. I drive all the way from Dillsburg to Enola with a wailing cat who hates car rides for this vet!

We LOVE Dr. Scott and his team! If you're looking for a Veterinarian who really cares about your animals, then this is the place! Very affordable as well. I'd give them 10 stars if I could. Dr. Scott had gotten me in to see my senior dachshund for an emergency when no one else would, not even the ER vets and I just am so thankful for finding him. He has been my vet ever since and I have not one complaint!

Dr. Scott is by far the best vet I have ever encountered. Beyond his medical expertise and quick diagnostic skills, he is extremely empathetic, caring, and compassionate. He truly wants the best for his patients and their owners and it shows. He’s the most patient and never makes me feel silly for worries or questions. He isn’t in it for the money and he actually looks for ways to help me save instead of slapping on extra charges like my previous vet did. To top it off, the rest of his staff are just as pleasant, caring, and helpful. We absolutely love and appreciate this vet practice and would never dream of switching!

I started taking my elderly cat to Cumberland Vet Clinic in early 2024. She has been seen by both Dr. Scott and Dr. Mel. Both vets were thorough, informative, and kind. Dr. Mel has gone above and beyond. All office staff and vet techs have also been kind, welcoming, and helpful. My cat is almost 17 and has been seen by several clinics throughout her life. Cumberland Vet Clinic has by far been the best. I highly recommend this clinic.
