How to Save Money at Best Friends Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Decided to bring my 14 month 40lb Siberian/malamute to get spayed. The cost is decent $193 (considering no fleas, young female, up on vaccines) all included a pre-procedure exam, anesthesia, pain medications, spay procedure, nail clipping, and free stitch removal. (I called 10 vets some past $200 not including exam or meds or nail clippings!) The office followed up Saturday morning to see how my fur baby was doing and answered medication questions I had and reminded me of the 12-14 stitch removal. My fur baby came out comfortable with TLC. I checked the incision and it looked clean and well done. Nails were trimmed just right. The day after she was taking in fluids and eating normally and was not in pain. The medications are helping with her ability to cope with the area and discomfort. I appreciate the vet, staff, front desk for their time and good service. I like that I was able to take her home same day as I am responsible to be with her all night and watch her. (As some are not which I understand precautions) Highly recommend this vet hospital for this procedure, and exams. Big thank you from Mira Gomez! These pic’s reflect the day of and the day after..

Unfortunately our long time family dog of 13 years finally got sick enough that we couldn't stand to let him suffer any longer. He declined so fast without any warning that we were unable to get with our regular vet. I probly called at least 13 different vets to no Avail or 3 week wait times for me to even get him in, he was so incredibly sick, suffering, and in pain and these guys worked me in same day. I can't say that will happen for everyone but it shows that they really care. They were so extremely kind, helpful, and good at what they did. I was so happy that they were able to help me put him to rest and let him pass in peace. The staff here is extremely skillful with what they do and I will be returning with the rest of my pets for regular check ups for a lot time yet. Edit: I received this card today, I am just absolutely in tears. This just shows how caring these folks are. that is his pawprint there and it fills me with so much love and sadness that hes gone but this gesture is so amazing That I will never be returning to another vet besides for this one. They will be my permanent vet clinic.

Best vet experience in the valley! Dr. Laura and her team are a fine group of compassionate professionals. I needed to get my puppy, Doc, neutered, I called to discuss the process and payment. I knew that the Jackson County Shelter uses their services. Their office recommended me to the SYNP program to elevate some of the cost and scheduled me for an appointment the very next day! When I dropped Doc off, everyone was very friendly. Doc was nervous and the staff their used their intuition to perform the initial exam by letting me hold him to help calm him down. I was contacted shortly thereafter to be updated on the status of the procedure and to discuss pick up. Doc was not sleepy or drowsy so they recommended I come get him as soon as possible so he could be at home and rest. That right there impressed me, they were taking my fur babies best interests to heart. Everyone recovers from medical procedures best at home. When we went to pick him up, the medication was ready, his sweater was back on and we were out the door! The very next day, I received a call to see how Doc was doing and if we needed anything. They did a fabulous job- so we didn't but I really appreciated knowing they were there for us. We went back 10 days later to take the stitches out and that was a wonderful experience too! I never doubt a dogs ability to pick up on things and when they're not comfortable, you'll know. Well, Doc went in, tails a wagging! The process was quick and we didn't hear a whimper out of him. I was thoroughly impressed and grateful for their services. Again, I got another call to follow up and make sure the incision looked alright. I would highly recommend this establishment and intend on going back with all three of my four legged babies. Thank you Best Friends! As a side bar, please keep in mind that pet ownership is a huge financial responsibility. Always keep in mind that something could go wrong and plan accordingly! Your animal is depending on you, don't take that lightly, be their hero, be responsible. Best Friends has very reasonable rates for the level of expertise and services they offer- how would the animal shelter be able to use them if they didn't? Think about it.

❤ Dr Laura & Her AMAZING TEAM will go out of their way for you & your furry friends. We had one of our dogs, get into some snail bait 😢 when my husband found her, minutes became crucial. On his way to our vet he happen to notice "Best Friends" doing a U turn, he ran her in. They stopped everything they were doing, swooped her up, instant treatment, all while letting my husband stand with her. Just really showed us the care they put towards our AMAZING animals we call our "Best Friends" & So do THEY. Our little girl Keno pulled through, with a Thank you from Dr. Laura and her staff at BEST FRIENDS 🐕🐺🐩🐱🐈🐶

Our pets have been going here since we moved here in 2013. They are patient and loving to our pets. When we had to put our 15 year old baby dog down last year they really helped the process. They gave us all the time we needed and made it painless for our pup. We will never go anywhere else. Our kitty is all we have left and he's getting older. We know he's in good hands here.
