How to Save Money at Diamond K Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am absolutely heartbroken writing this, but people deserve to know. I trusted this vet clinic with my dog’s life, and that trust was completely betrayed. From the beginning, communication was terrible. Calls went unanswered, messages were never returned, and every time I tried to get an update or ask questions about my dog’s condition, I was ignored. We paid for what we were told was a necessary surgery to help our dog, believing we were doing the right thing. Instead of improving, our dog got progressively worse. It truly feels like they took our money and did the bare minimum if anything at all while our pet continued to suffer. When you are trusting someone with a member of your family, you expect care, honesty, and accountability. What we experienced was the exact opposite. The lack of concern, lack of follow-up, and lack of responsibility is beyond negligent. If you truly love your animal, do NOT bring them to this vet. I wish someone had warned me before we trusted them with our dog. If you love your dog like family DO NOT COME HERE, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

This clinic is one of the best veterinarian clinics that I’ve ever been to. The doctor is precise and thorough. they are very caring and they do such a great job. I had to leave a review to let everyone know that this is the place to go if you need a good veterinarian clinic. I want to thank everybody there for all that they did to help us and our Luna.

I wouldn’t bring a goldfish to this place ! Brought my dog witch had a left leg hurting, didn’t she didn’t want to do a X-ray just give medication so they could change money, few days later both legs quit working made an appointment waited forty five minutes after my appointment, no one showed up or at least they could have said they had a emergency! I would have understood that! Loaded up my dog took to the animal hospital in Durant. Very professional took X-rays had to put my baby down, very caring staff,I will use them for now on.

So heartbroken right now. Didn’t expect this at all. Went to the vet on a Friday and did a reverse progesterone, our female was a 10.9 and was told to come back on Monday at 8am for the c session and to have a back up vet for over the weekend in case our female was to be ready over the weekend. So I had another vet on standby for emergency for over the weekend just in case. Was scheduled a c session 8am Monday morning. Been testing and doing reverse progesterone all weekend to make sure I didn’t need my emergency standby vet. Drove 3 hours. Arrived to my appointment time on Monday morning at 7:30am (I know I was early, my female was a 4.1 when I left the house so I wanted to make sure I didn’t have any issues at all). Someone came and opened the clinic at 8am and I was told that the vet won’t arrive until 1pm. Like who does that when they have c sessions in place? It’s not like she didn’t know, she did the test that Friday and told me to come back. I then had to hurry up and find a new vet because now my female is pushing. Nearest vet is a minimum of 45 minutes away without traffic and they literally had to work us in as I never been a client of theirs before. They got me on their schedule and were able to complete the procedure (very nice, friendly and professional), but our pups were born still born because of the amount of time they were separated from the placenta and the vet that performed the c section confirmed that the pups would've lived if taken out at least an hour earlier. Beautiful babies, healthy pregnancy, healthy mom and all 5 of our babies are dead because of a vet who wasn’t dependable at all and neglected her clients. Thank goodness the mom survived, but I’ll never forget this.

Diamond K Vet was non other than amazing! I drove from Dallas and ended up having to leave Ms London there because she wasn’t ready to give birth yet. I called to check on her everyday and the staff was very informative and kept me up to date on her progress! She ended up staying an additional 2 days.. by the 3rd day they told me to head on down she was ready! Before I could even get to Atola they were calling congratulating me on being a Grandmom to 4 puppies! I made it there and the Dr was bringing the puppies and Ms London to the front! The C-section scar was so tiny and her Dr did an amazing job! I recommended everyone I know to this vet! It was worth the travel which really didn’t take long at all! I will definitely use Diamond K in the future!!
