How to Save Money at MedVet Hilliard

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Do NOT GO. The vets did not do what they think was best they ask what the person thinks is best to do and how would a person know whats best! It's on the vet to help the animals not send them home with something they think will help when it's truly not the best result because they are not exactly sure what is best. I am getting an necropsy to let me know what exactly the issue was because the vets didn't take the time to think what was the best option to solve this issue or even find out what the issue was to honestly help the animal from something deathly at that. 2 years old. Dead. I'm warning you, these people are young and I feel only there for the pay. They truly do not care for the animals at the end of the day.

Staff were incredibly friendly even in the middle of the night and despite being very busy. Every interaction I overheard was positive and my own experience was no less. They were upfront about how long everything would take but I in no way felt that my pet was being ignored in the meantime, they even put her in a scrub shirt so that her wound wasn’t open to everything while she awaited treatment.

We simply cannot express our gratitude for the excellent care and service our pet received. After the passing of our best friend a few months ago, we adopted his cat and welcomed him into our home. He has been a massive support for us and has become an integral part of our lives. When we suddenly had an urgent emergency during the recent snowstorm, we were referred to MetVet Hilliard and I’m so glad we did not go anywhere else. The team here was absolutely amazing from the very beginning. They were informative, compassionate, supportive, attentive, and helped us make the right decision through every step of caring for our pet. I saw them jump into action, not only the moment we arrived, but several other times as other emergency cases arrived. I never once felt overlooked, delayed, or ignored. They were able to quickly and adequately address the issues, and he is doing so much better! Additionally, they caught another crucial issue that we were unaware of, and we will now be able to address this early and ensure that our pet stays in the best health possible. We want to thank every single person on your staff that was involved. We highly recommend this location!

Great personal care by Dr. Bisgard and team while treating little Louie! Louie fractured his elbow as small pup and required surgery and an overnight stay, as well as several follow-ups. Dr. Bisgard always took her time and showed empathy while caring for our boy. I would highly recommend the team at MedVet Hilliard!

Staff was beyond friendly and helpful. they treated reaper like he was family. my cat had to have emergency surgery and i was so worried. but they gave me updates and they are always receptive to my questions whenever i call. the surgeon was also very good at communicating all the necessary information about the surgery! i couldn’t have asked for a better team during our times of need! reaper is bouncing back so quick for his surgery i am so impressed with his care! it’s like a regular ER, prices are high and sometimes there can be long waits due to priority patients. they do offer care credit for people who need help paying.
