How to Save Money at Town & Country Hospital for Pets

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been taking my dogs and cats here for over 20 years, and have always had an incredible experience. The staff are kind and helpful and the services are super affordable. I would highly recommend them to anyone in search of a local vet.

Always reasonable. They are booked out pretty far but will always try to get your pet in if there is an emergency.

We had to put our dog down, she was there the whole.time loving and talking to my baby girl as if she was hers. Although the hardest thing I've done in a while she made it feel more peaceful l. Thank you for so much compassion

This hospital has gone downhill since Dodge stopped working his wife and daughter have taken over the practice and the team that they have their is horrible yesterday I took my pregnant dog there that had been in labor for almost 24 hours the lady on the phone was nothing but rude and disrespectful they refused to come out and look at my dog to see what going on they basically sentenced my dog to death and the lady on the phone made the comment I shouldn't breed dogs if I couldn't deal with the consequences I was there to get help for my dog and she refused another occasion my friend called up and the lady on the phone which was a receptionist told her the dog had anxiety and that was what was going on the dog died a few hours later they misdiagnosed my sister's dog who died three days after they told her the dog had a UTI home on medication I believe the receptionist on the phone who took my call yesterday owes me an apology and so does that vet hospital for how I was treated and what was said however I did find another vet to look at my dog he gave her a shot of pitocin and she pushed her babies out just fine her and her four little babies are doing great no thanks to Town & Country Vet Hospital Hospital I will no longer recommend them to anyone it is like sentencing your dog to doggie death row I have never been more disappointed or disgusted at this place their motto is they put animals first while obviously not give the the fact of what I experienced yesterday you were supposed to put the well-being of the animal first no matter how you feel about the situation shame on you shame on you

When they actually see my cats they are nice however, unprofessionally unorganized. I have came by 5 different times to neuter two of my babies, just for them to tell me they each needed something different before getting neutered. Now I understand vaccination happens and is needed but one would appreciate the information before the actual appointment. Otherwise it is a blank trip, I say that because first time they couldn’t get neutered because they needed a vaccine, second time they needed registrations of some sort, 3rd time a new vaccine, and when I called the 4th time just to make sure nothing else is needed they misinformed me again just to find out they needed something else to get neutered. Not only do I have to wait an additional two months to get them back in but I asked to speak to a manager and she never called back or got on the phone. Worse place to recommend and never coming back again.
