How to Save Money at Progressive Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff at Progressive Animal Hospital care as much about our pets as we do. The staff are energetic, overtly friendly toward the pets and very patient. They act as a cohesive team with concern and empathy .Dr. Frishman is advanced in his veterinarian treatments and the receptionist is extremely cordial and well informed on animal care. We have been clients for over a decade .

I had previously posted a review for PAH, & it somehow disappeared. Everything happens for a reason! Hebrew word for this is "Bashert ". We had 3 budgies who were being seen by a wonderful Vet in Poughkeepsie. She was amazing when we had to put our oldest Budgie to rest last December. In September I received a health diagnosis that changed my life. My husband doesn't drive. So we had to find a Vet close to home. There aren't many animal hospitals that work with exotic pets. I was fortunate to find PAH which is only 15 minutes from our home. From my first call to this office back in October 2022, I knew we would be in good hands. Dina was not only professional, also kind, patient and compassionate. When I explained I was immune compromised & still wearing a mask, I arrived for our birds first visit, and EVERYONE was respectfully wearing masks. Dr. Frishman, Deborah & entire staff were amazing. Deborah after hearing my testimony, removed a "healing " bracelet from her wrist, and gave it to me. WOW!!! Unbelievable! Then my husband became ill. Doctors advised us we needed to re-home our bird babies. I have a list of over 50 Vets, shelters, rescues, & social media posts that I sent emails, flyers & calls to. Speak of due diligence! NOTHING! I began to feel hopeless. When I brought our boys to Dr. Frishman at the end of June, I shared my frustration and desperation. He said he'd discuss possibly taking our bird boys . He would discuss with Deborah, and rest of PAH staff, & asked me to call them after 4th of July. To be honest I wasn't expecting the news I received when I called. The answer was a YES! I know in my heart that we received all those no's, because God had a big YES waiting for us. Yesterday I brought Shalom & Shaina to their new home. Usually when we've had an appointment, we were in & out. However, yesterday I was there for a while setting up their new cage in the office reception area. I had an opportunity to chat with other pet parents who felt as blessed as I do for having such a wonderful, Professional, caring practice for our pet families. I witnessed the interaction between both the staff, pet owners, as well as staff with their patients. Each pet that arrived while I was there was treated respectfully both when owners were present as well as after they left their pet behind for treatment. After I left PAH, I sat in my car & cried. My heart was broken and at the same time filled with gratitude and joy! I still haven't been able to go into their room, & that's o.k. Dr. Frishman, Deborah, Dina & staff... words can never fully express our heartfelt gratitude for this amazingly wonderful act of kindness! And Chris, you did a great job assembling cage. Thank you! If you are looking for a truly caring practice, with a Doctor that's honest, and who truly cares for the welfare of not only your pet, but for you as well, look no further! And when you do visit, we hope you enjoy Shalom & Shaina. We are forever grateful!!
