How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Port Washington Animal Hospital
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Communication Preferences
Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.
Breed Specific Health Considerations
Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.
Facility Tour

5 months ago my family brought my cat into Dr. E, because his eye was bulging out of his head. On the spot he told us it was cancer and advised putting my cat down within week, and offered to do it then and there. I asked if he could do any tests for an infection, even just draw labs for a white count, since this swelling literally started the day before. He insisted it was cancer, and that I should “do something about it before his eye bursts or falls out.” He said he couldn’t assess my cats mouth since my cat “could bite him,” which just felt so off putting. It felt like he didn’t want to do a full assessment. My cat is EXTREMELY friendly, (like, purrs and licks the vet friendly) and is missing half of his teeth. I got a second opinion elsewhere, the second vet actually looked into my cat’s mouth (like one would expect the vet to), and felt my cat’s head. He saw inflammation and felt fluid. It was pus from a retrobulbar abscess. He drained it (for only $80,) put my cat on antibiotics, and my cat has made a full recovery. It was only an infection!!! I don’t normally leave negative reviews but I would hate for somebody else to receive a misdiagnosis and lose their best friend like I nearly did. He was simply, extremely negligent. And quite frankly, I get the impression that he just does not like cats. (I leave 2 stars because I have nothing negative to say about Dr. F, he’s always treated our dog wonderfully.)

This place needs an update yes sorry I know it's probably a family-owned and has been open for a while but every place needs some TLC I feel like I am walking into an old school Hospital maybe a little Renovations they had a lady there that kept the place very clean but I haven't seen her in a while I guess she got booted for being too clean

Mixed experiences here — easy to get into friendly staff, but Dr is very laissez faire in diagnosing / treating issues. Misdiagnosed a staph infection as “allergies” and had us pay for an allergy shot ($200) and then later found out from different vet was much more serious skin infection that required a long course of antibiotics. Also did not get liver values before putting my dog on rimadyl which is a big no no. Think probably fine for super minor things but have found a different vet.
