How to Save Money at EVS Pet Urgent Care of Niagara

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our boy Figaro was not feeling well New Year’s Day and we could not wait until our vet appointment on the 7th. The ENTIRE staff at EVS was phenomenal - very friendly, knowledgeable, compassionate, informative, and they took great care of Figaro. They’re very prompt with their communication to your primary vet and also on checking on how your animal was doing. We were brought in within minutes of entering the waiting room and from there, they were very quick and attentive to get Figaro taken care of. We highly recommend EVS if an emergency vet is not an option (as it wasn’t for us) and don’t hesitate to make an appointment here as they will do the BEST they can to ensure your fur baby is cared for in the best fashion!

Everyone was pleasant welcoming and compassionate. I cannot thank Mara and Dr. Chris Brown enough for helping me with Milo today. I have been working with a few vets that truly care about the animals but really don't want to take the time to talk to the fur baby parents and both Mara and Dr Chris spent quality time listening to my concerns and offering solutions. I am very grateful for an urgent care that's also reasonably priced We were certainly not overcharged at all! This little guy already feels better and he's all happy and back to his usual cheerful self.

Wow. What a great team and experience! The place is brand new and very clean. So grateful for Dr. Brown, Megan and Marissa. They were soo sweet and competent during our visit, which I should also add was super quick and I know my little girl appreciates that part! I paid ~overall~ the same amount every other vet charges just to be 'seen'/put in a room, the price is unheard of in the emergancy vet world! I am so grateful for EVS pet urgant care. This is where I will come from now on, if ever need be. Thank you EVS team!!!

No sooner did we walk in the door they were calling us back by name and knew what we were there for. We called ahead and while it was an out of town call center, the rep was friendly and easy to book a time. Just a small wait in the exam room and the tech and doc were friendly and personable. The snacks and drinks in the waiting room were a nice touch. The estimate was reasonable and when they couldn't get one test done on our pet they took it off the bill no issues. It's a hike from our house but would definitely make the trip out again if need be.

Took my 1 yr pit here to have her nail looked at because she would not put her paw down. They were so awesome with her and us!! I left feeling so thankful for them. We were in and out so fast too but took their time to answer any and all questions. Every single person was kind to my baby that was a little nervous!! Thank you!!
