How to Save Money at Reade Street Animal Hospital, A Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We were sent over to Reade Street Animal Hospital after our former vet shut down. We had to bring our cat in because she was feeling spooked, anxiety, and having bathroom problems. They pumped her mouth full of some anti-anxiety medication which she despised and spit out. And right then, HAMMERING started in the room right next to us! Our cat was there for ANXIETY - in a strange environment, getting prodded and poked - she was scared enough. But do you have any idea how scared cats are of HAMMERING? Apparently not. How can a vet office justify HAMMERING in the middle of the day?? I had to run out of there and sit outside with our cat carrier while my wife promptly settled up our bill, in full, of course. We had one follow up call with a very pleasant doctor who told us our cat may have lingering issues, but let's keep an eye and call back. Our cat is still having lingering issues as I type this, and I called back yesterday, and still no one has returned our call. It's impossible at this point to leave anything but an unhappy review of this place, and it seems we will need to quickly find somewhere new before our cat becomes really sick. Edit: 02/18/26 - Our cat is permanently scarred from our experience at Reade Street Animal Hospital. She will no longer get into her carrier. I want anyone who reads this review to also note that the business has not even bothered to reply, in any way, to this review. Care. Compassion. THINK TWICE.

This is my first visit to Reade Street with one of my pets. The staff are welcoming and professional and I was reassured that my cat was seen by Dr. Abrams, who is an excellent veterinarian. I'm glad to make Reade Street my cats' new medical home.

I recently started bringing my cat, Olive, here because they partner with Thrive. I used to bring Olive to a Thrive Affordable Vet Clinic when we lived in Denver and was very happy with their care. Through Reade’s Thrive program we are able to receive unlimited free exams, 10% of services, and $5 nail trims. This has already worked out very well as I recently had to bring Olive to the emergency vet. While the emergency vet was able to rule out certain things, they discharged us with instructions to get a biopsy from our regular vet. Reade was able to fit us in for an appointment the very next day. They treated Olive with care and explained what tests we would need to run as well as things to keep an eye on at home. The only complaint I have is that they don’t seem to have payment plan for large expenses. I have a pretty tight budget and $350+ ($500+ without the Thrive membership) up front is definitely not in that budget. Fortunately, my family was able to help me out, but it would be great if Reade could offer Scratchpay or CareCredit for things like cytology, blood testing, etc.

Superb care and follow-up both in and out of the office (email, phone, text). I highly recommend this practice -- from the doctor(s) to the tech and reception staff. Extremely responsive to our cat's and our own needs.

Dr. P and all of the staff at Reade Street Animal Hospital are wonderful! They are unfailingly helpful and have an ability to make my dog feel comfortable that I haven’t seen at other vets. Dr. P and Dr. Singh are knowledgeable, caring and put the wellbeing of your pet first. I travel from Brooklyn to Reade Street and I wouldn’t go anywhere else for vet care.
