How to Save Money at VCA Mount Kisco Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I felt compelled to write this review for Dr. Lori Gil. In a world where genuine care and compassion are rare, Dr. Gil stands out as a beacon of kindness. Her unparalleled dedication to the well-being of all animals is remarkable and difficult to find. I recently dubbed her the "Fairy Veterinarian" due to her magical ability to bring comfort, healing to my boys and calm our nerves. Knowing that any time my dogs are in her care, they are in the ABSOLUTE BEST CARE! Recently, Dr. Gil reached out to me after my pup's ER visit, showcasing her unwavering commitment to her patients. Especially because she hasn't seen them in quite some time! Yesterday she performed surgery on my 8 year old Daniff. He went in with a fever and infection. Although I was on edge, I wasn't overly concerned because I knew inherently that she had my pup's best interest in mind and treats him as if he were her own! She is one of the very few veterinarians I wholeheartedly trust, and her genuine concern for animals is both rare and precious. Words will never be sufficient to describe my affection for her, but I felt as though this was a great start. To share with the world just how incredible of a human being she is! Eternally grateful for Dr. Gil. Not enough stars on this review. I'd leave a million if I could.

The staff at VCA Mount Kisco is exceptional in their care and compassion. Despite my cat passing away due to an accident, they provided unwavering support and helped us choose the best way to care for his remains. Additionally, they sent us a heartfelt card signed by all the staff. I am grateful to VCA for their kindness during this difficult time.

We were referred to this clinic by another VCA. We made a 6:00pm appointment to put our 19+ year old cat, Jeter, down, who was really suffering. No other clients were there when we arrived so we got a lot of attention. Dr. Olsen and staff were very compassionate and there was no pressure to try anything to prolong her life. It was obvious that our tough decision was the best option. Dr. Olsen explained the procedure and took all the time we needed to ask questions and to say goodbye to our pet. We live 40 minutes from this facility but we will be back when needed with our other cat and future pets. At last we have found a veteranarian for our pets and ourselves that we are 100% happy with. Only sorry that our first appointment was for end of life. Thank you all.

The entire team at VCA is outstanding and provided incredible care to our beloved Border Terrier Taylor from 8 months until just shy of his 15th birthday when he passed from Melanoma. After every lab test, we received a call the next day with results. We always felt the doctors and staff went the extra mile to take care of Taylor and make sure our questions were answered. Once, Camille hand-delivered a cone to our home when it was accidentally left at the Vet and we were leaving for a flight and didn't have time to retrieve it. We also received a handwritten condolence note signed by the whole staff on Taylor's passing.

Dr. Olsen and the entire team at VCA Mt Kisco Veterinary Clinic helped us find comfort in saying goodbye to our 16 year old Yorkie with the utmost care, professionalism and respect. We even received a hand written card to acknowledge our loss and love for our pet. A gesture like this is a true testament to the kind hearted people who represent their practice.
