How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Banfield Pet Hospital
Preventive care
Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.
Compare prescription pricing
Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.
Consider pet insurance
Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

You can compare coverage options from multiple providers to find a plan that fits your budget and your pet’s healthcare needs.
Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Experience
Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.
Emergency Care Procedures
It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.
Communication Preferences
Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.
Breed Specific Health Considerations
Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.
Facility Tour

It’s a 50 minute drive for me to get here… don’t mind it, because of the super-friendly staff…plus whenever my girls have to stay the day for a procedure…. I get a call the next day, to see how they’re doing. It’s a pleasure taking them here.. 👍🏼

My cat was having base of tail pain I took him to Banfield and I was mislead to believe my cat had a more serious issue (a broken tail). I was told he needed bloodtests, xrays, radiologist consult - all totaling almost $1100. They offered their Wellness Plan and said I would only be responsible for what wasn't "covered" and 63.95 for that month's fee. So I assumed it was an insurance plan. No terms were discussed just a 63.95 monthly fee to stay on the plan. I paid almost $300 that day. After almost 3 hours of tests, xrays and waiting they had no diagnosis. 3 days later after the radiologist consult - no diagnosis and no treatment plan and my cat had no improvement. They suggested a lateral xray next and for us to see the orthopedic vet. I decided to take my cat to Ani-mall instead and within 20 minutes the Veterinarian diagnosed him with Hyperesthesia, fleas, extremely dry skin and arthritis. They treated him with laser therapy, flea treatment and solensia and he was 100% healed that same day. I waited over a week with Banfield and they did absolutely nothing for my cat. Except charge me an overinflated bill and traumatize my cat, who hid for days after going to Banfield (something he's never done and didn't do after going to Ani-mall). All Banfield could do was tell me I needed more overpriced tests. If you're trying to save money just go to your local Vet they will save you in the long run because they actually know what they're doing and can diagnose and heal your animal instead of just bloat the bill. For just over $300 Ani-mall did what Banfield couldn't for over $1000. Banfield is all about selling their wellness plans and little about caring for and treating animals. Update... Sent email to email in reply from Banfield. No response other than automated - we will get back to you within 2 business days. I sent the email August 4th today's the 10th.
