How to Save Money at Crawford Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Wow this is a great place to bring your pets to. I met with Dr Gary and I love how honest, straightforward, as well as smart and informative he is. I will probably not be returning to my original vet anymore and just coming here! They actually care more about your pets than the money and it shows there are still amazing people and businesses around. I love how caring Dr Gary is and how well he addressed our issues. Thank you for being real definitely returning here if needed

This clinic is all stars! Doctor Josh was understanding and explained everything we asked. Our 10yr yorkie did few teeth extractions and dental work and he felt really good after procedure. Making appointment was easy, staff is great, caring and welcoming. We are definitely switching both our doggies to this clinic.

We were referred to this place by a friend. We took our dog here after a horrible experience with another vet. Dr. Garry and his staff were gentle and took amazing care of our Luna. She was unfortunately too sick by the time she was in his care. We appreciate everything he did for our pup and for my family. We cannot recommend this place enough!

I brought our 8 year old Doberman in because she wasn't feeling well and we noticed a small lump on her belly area. They looked at her and determined she had Cushing disease. This is manageable illness. We asked about the lump they took a sample we left and got a call the next day. Our Doberman had Breast cancer. We were told by Josh to continue to treat for the Cushing disease and not be overly concerned with the breast cancer that in dogs this cancer spreads very slowly its not like a human case. And the lump was small. So we continued to treat for Cushing disease. In the process we were advised her uterus needs to be removed 5000.00 surgery. So I did it. The stitching from the surgery did not take because of the Cushing disease. We had to bring her back for restiching which they charged me again for as well as the overnight stay for the dog after paying all this money so far. I have pictures, recordings because it seemed very strange to me. MIND YOU WE BEEN USING THESE PEOPLE FOR YEARS. We finally got her home again. About 1 month passes and the dog is acting strange. We brought her back to Josh and found out the breast cancer was very aggressive, the lump got bigger now he tells us the dog needs chemo but will only keep the dog alive another month or two. I took the dog went to New York animal hospital in Manhattan and they told me it should have been taken care of immediately not put to the side like Josh said. They explained to me the neglectful diagnosis Crawford gave us. If fact they explained Crawford was neglectful on there diagnosis and their lack of treatment. So we brought the dog home to live our her life at home. What we seen this poor dog go through before passing was very disheartening. I also have a letter from them stating their conclusion on the dog and the treatment given by Crawford animal hospital. IF YOU LOVE YOUR ANIMAL AND WANT IT TO LIVE FOR A LONG TIME DO NOT BRING THEM HERE!!! TOTAL INCOMPETENCE. THEY RIP YOU OFF AND GIVE YOU SECOND RATE SERVICE. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT MY DOG IS A FAMILY MEMBER AND I WANT THE BEST TREATMENT SO THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO. DON'T TRUST THEIR DIAGNOSIS GET A SECOND OPINION AND FIND A VET YOU CAN TRUST!! IF I COULD GIVE THEM A ZERO I WOULD. THEY DON'T DESERVE 1 STAR. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WE DID TRUSTING THEM. THEIR INCOMPETENCE KILLED OUR DOG.
