How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Kinderhook Animal Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Our cat saw Dr. Southard multiple times this year(within the last month as well). We were concerned due to the fact that she was almost 20. We were repeatedly told the cat was fine. No tests were run, and we were given an at home remedy. We had to bring the cat to Latham Animal Hospital where they determined that she was not fine, and riddled with cancer. We had to put her down. We are heart-broken because we wouldn't have let her suffer if we had known. This all seemed very avoidable had proper testing been done.

Old school values of being the local vet, not a corporation. Very experienced, knows his stuff. Staff too. All very caring, nice people. Simply love animals. What more could you ask for. Oh! Reasonable costs. Highly recommended but sadly he's retiring.

Dr. Christopher Southard is extremely caring, and gentle as is tech team and office staff. Currently treating my 13 yr old diabetic dachshund for glaucoma.

Called on Monday morning when my 18 year old cat seemed to be sick and struggled to eat. They had us come in that day within hours. I was very impressed by the professionalism of the doctor as well as his compassionate staff. Our news was not good and after discussing the options with my daughter and the doctor we made the decision not to make our love of 18 years suffer. We were so impressed by the very affordable cost of immediate appointment, the professional consultation, putting our love of 18 years in a better place and the cremation cost. Very affordable for such professionalism and compassion shown by the doctor as well as his wonderful staff.
