How to Save Money at Boulevard Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

TLDR: would recommend. TW: Pet loss My family came in September because one of our pups needed surgery. The staff was kind and professional with an amazing bedside manner. We came back a week ago because this same pup was not doing well, and we knew we might have to make that tough decision. The same vet tech (?) was there, and she remembered our girl. She was so kind before the doc came in. The doc and vet tech both examined her, and we had an honest discussion about what was best for our dog. We ended up putting her to sleep and appreciate the kind and supportive nature of all the staff. We chose to be with our dog as it all happened. Additionally, we cremated our dog and had her remains sent to us. The packaging was beautiful along with a paw print plaster-cast.

I’ve been bringing my dog here since the day we got him. And the professional staff is always there to help me with my Ollie’s appointments and emergency visits. They’re caring and compassionate staff and doctors. I highly recommend them and if I can give more than 5 stars I will.

Took care of Nibbles very professionally, staff is very nice, and since they are a network of clinics in Queens and Long island, usually can see you sooner rather than later. Also, they have experience with guinea pigs. Super important.

I have been going to this clinic since 2009. First took my cat who eventually passed away from Cancer, the Vets and staff were so compassionate and helpful as I went through the experience. They even assisted with house calls in the end as my cat was too anxious and upset to leave the house to get her injections. When I adopted two rescues they strongly encouraged me to get Trupanion. It was a lifesaver. Within the first few months of my first rescue, he cut up his neck-later turned out to be allergies. They consistently treat my cats as well as you could. I consider them family. I am in awe of some of the poor reviews as I cannot even imagine the bad experiences described as happening. The office staff are always friendly and talk to me about how my cats are doing. Pets are expensive and tests are as well. This office always has the pet in mind. In summary, I have seen multiple Vets and have nothing but kind words to say about them.

The doctor is so sweet, really nice but the place as a whole is super disappointing. So expensive and when the doctor will tell me 1 price I’m getting billed almost double that and when I ask about the price difference I’m immediately shot down instead of having them check the price once more. However, for me price is secondary to service and although the doctor is great there is one front desk lady that ruined this place for me. We had an accident with my dog and I called in a panic hoping to be seen ASAP immediately the woman on the phone tells me I have to go to a different branch of theirs cause it’s too much…. No sympathy not even a question to ask how my pup was doing. I felt so dismissed and hurt that this place that I had been going for almost a year was so quick to send me somewhere else. Well, I found a new vet I’ll be going to.
