How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Let me start by saying, I don't typically write reviews but I felt it was important to share my experience. Blue Pearl in Forest Hills is amazing! I would highly recommend Blue Pearl to anyone in need of vet services. On Sunday (3/16/25) morning, trimming our dogs nails, we cut one too deep. Blood everywhere. We tried to stop the bleeding at home, no luck. Took our girl to Blue Pearl, Forest Hills. Walked in with blood trailing, greeted by reception and a vet tech. The vet tech immediately took our girl to begin treatment. Within 30 minutes we were reunited with our girl, bleeding stopped!! The vet tech was amazing!! Explained what they did to stop the bleeding, how to treat at home and blood loss symptoms to be aware of. She also suggested using a grinder vs clippers in the future. Happy that we averted a serious medical issue, we headed to reception to check out. The receptionist informed us there was no charge for the service. WHAT!?!?! No charge!!! I was completely shocked. We are grateful for the compassionate and generous service Blue Pearl provided. Our girl is all healed and doing well. We adopted our Lil Miss Georgia Peach from NYC Second Chance Rescue in January 2024. We are making a donation to the rescue in Blue Pearls name, as a thank for your service and generosity.

I took my cat there for an emergency. The front desk receptionist asked what was wrong with my cat. After explaining in detail, what was wrong, they quickly took my cat to the back. The veterinarian examined my cat and explained to me what needed to be done. I signed off on the treatment plan. I got my cat back the same day. After being home for a couple of hours, my cat was still acting a little "loopy." I called the veterinarian late at night and they told me it was normal and it would take up to 12 hours for the anesthesia to wear off. I have no problems and no complaints with this place whatsoever. They were very nice and patient with explaining everything to me. The office is also very clean. They have a mini fridge with complementary bottles of water. I hope I don't have to do this, but if I have to go there again, I will.

I endured the worst experience with my one year old puppy that was choking on a bone treat. They promptly attended to it, ultimately saving her life. Their services were exceptional, and no cost was a concern. Better alive than sobering for the rest of my life.

This hospital saved my senior puppy and is offering him a life drastically different than what he was living 2 days ago. The doctors and nurses here are extremely smart, patient and caring. I think they know a lot and also know how to talk to people so that you make the best decision for treatment plan. That is rare to me.. I too signed off on everything and am incredibly happy I can offer that to my baby. Also, the office is super nice and clean! From the rooms to the bathroom! A really nice place here. They even have amenities for guests such as coffee and water. I will continue to use their service and hear their cardiologist is great. I think this hospital is really good, very transparent and they have specialists available. It is round the clock care even at night. What more could you want. 2.9 stars is sad to see for such a good place, but alas don’t read in to everything you see online ;) I thank you so much Blue Pearl. Thank you thank you thank you.

Dr. Seltzer and Team are the absolute best! They take amazing care of our senior pup Skipper, and also took fabulous care of his brother Snapper. They are professional, knowledgeable and compassionate, and we feel so fortunate to have found them!
